Atletico Madrid and England right-back Kieran Trippier has had surgery to sort out a groin injury.
Trippier, who joined the La Liga side from Tottenham last July, has not played since Atletico's defeat by Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final on 12 January.
The 29-year-old has missed four games since and had an operation on Tuesday.
Atletico Madrid host Liverpool in their Champions League last-16 first-leg match on 18 February.

I think this is the latest in a string of injuries for Athletico. Which is a shame.

Yep. Quite a few. I'll be very happy if Costa, Morata, Koke and of course Joao Felix happen to miss both our games.

Yeah, Costa is a fucking nuisance. Though part of me would enjoy watching him attempting to ruffle our imperious colossus to no discernible effect.

Marca are all in a flap about Liverpool being a big scary monster.

Atletico Madrid and Liverpool are two worlds apart with two weeks to go

Atletico Madrid are the worst version of themselves since Diego Simeone arrived at the club, both in terms of numbers and feeling.
To make things worse, Los Rojiblancos are just two weeks away from taking on the European champions and the best team on the continent on current form in Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp's side are well on their way to their first ever Premier League crown, currently holding a 22-point advantage over Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.
Atletico Madrid have scored just one goal in their last five games, while Liverpool can't stop winning and are the most feared team around, thanks in no small part to their front line of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Klopp, now in his fifth season at Anfield, has a well-oiled machine on his hands.
"We're not perfect, not even close" he said.
But they can't be far off.
The Reds have won 24 of their first 25 Premier League games this season, drawing the other, and haven't lost in the league since falling 2-1 against City in January 2019, accumulating 100 points from the last 102 on offer.
At the back they have a wall in the form of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker behind him.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is an assists king at full-back and Jordan Henderson is an engine in midfield.
Already European champions, Klopp's side are even better than they were last season and he's never lost a continental knockout tie at the club, nor has he lost any of his 22 European home games.
Having already reached a Europa League final and two Champions League finals with the club, Klopp's Liverpool are striking fear into Europe's elite again.
They're striking fear into Atletico, a club suffering from a severe injury crisis.
All of that leads to pessimism surrounding the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano ahead of the first leg on February 18.
That's only amplified when last year's Champions League elimination is remembered, when they blew a first leg lead over Juventus by collapsing in Turin.

Also Marca's update on Costa:

There can be no questioning Diego Costa's desire and passion, a volcanic character at the best of times with his clashes and dismissals, but when facing injuries he must be careful.
An operation on a spinal injury on November 21 ruled him out for three months, of which two weeks are left, but he is already rushing to be available.
The team's struggles in front of goal and injury crisis mean that the Brazilian-born striker is forcing himself to be back fit with club doctors trying to slow his recovery.
As is always the case, they do not want to run the risk of worsening any injury issues and prefer to take their time as is with Jose Maria Gimenez, Stefan Savic and Koke at various points throughout the campaign.

It is very unlikely, though not entirely ruled out, that he will face Liverpool on February 18, though if it were up to him he would certainly play.
Oscar Celada and his medical team will have the final say and they suggest that, had Atletico been scheduled to play the tie a week later, he would almost certainly have been available.
His desire comes from his experience a year ago, when he overcame a foot operation in time to face Juventus at the same stage of the competition at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano and was among the best performers in one of his team's best displays in recent years.

Fuck Costa, once Van Dijk's finished with him, he can always skulk off and see how easy Henderson is to try and bully. Worked well last time he tried it.

Yup. Don't really like this narrative of the dead on their feet Athletico against the unstoppable force of Liverpool. I guess though that we just ain't Klopp's plucky underdogs anymore. We know Athletico will keep it very tight and attempt to play us on the break with quality. Much like Spurs attempted and United twice. We didn't wipe the floor with any of those guys either, but on balance we've come out on top.

the last time i read stuff like this was pre Napoli and it didn’t go so well, not underestimating them at all

Not exactly about us but still CL relevant (and maybe for our PL game on the 4th April too) :

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling will be out "for weeks" because of a hamstring injury, according to manager Pep Guardiola.
The England international, 25, limped out of his club's 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on Sunday.
"It takes weeks, but I don't know how long right now," Guardiola said.
Second-placed City, who are 22 points behind leaders Liverpool, confirmed that scans had revealed damage to Sterling's left hamstring.
Sterling has featured in 23 of City's 25 league matches this season.

It was better news on City winger Leroy Sane, who is back in training after suffering a serious knee injury in the Community Shield against Liverpool on 4 August.
"He has started to train with us. He needs to recover tempo and confidence," the City manager confirmed. "It needs time. He needs weeks."
