We're currently interested in Matip from Schalke. But looking at our record with free transfers, its pretty shocking.
So many poor signings and loads of money pissed away on wages.

My favourite is probably Gary Mac, closely followed by Babbel.

I'm sure Miller received a very large signing on fee too. That said he's still one of our better purchases over the years. My personal favourite of the list belongs to Aurelio. He had his flaws and his injuries but I always thought he was a lovely footballer.

Ings will cost us about 8m, so that doesn't really count. Gary Mac and Babbel are the standouts. Never rated Aurelio that highly; no pace, always injured, couldn't tackle or head a ball.

Its not the worst group of players, as far as freebies go. Of course there are duds, thats why they ended up on frees, because of injury records, age, crapness etc.

Stan, Aurelio, Gary Mac, Babbel, Milner and Toure have all been good deals.
