He really reminds me of young Cristiano. Incredible ball control, speed and confidence, but so far decision-making often lets him down. Once he figures it out, he will be a superstar.
Dortmund vs Monaco will be one tasty series. You could probably fill a small stadium with talent scouts alone.
Him and Mane on both wide attacking roles would be like a dream. Could we possibly afford him if we offloaded a few attackers and spent a chunk of the transfer budget? Don't know but hope we at least try.
My shortlist of wingers to sign last summer was this:
Dembele
Sane
Mane
In terms of immediate impact, we definitely got the best deal with Mane. He is a much more mature player and this season we probably would not have been anywhere close to top 4 without him. But long-term I think the other 2 have higher ceiling, especially Dembele. Let's hope this summer Klopp can unearth another player of this caliber and actually sign him – there were reports that Klopp was very interested in both Dembele and Sane, but we couldn't quite pull it off.
I actually thought it was a bit underwhelming to be honest, too many 'normal' passes of play for my liking. In my defense I am only watching Dolberg compilations and those are red hot in comparison (on a much cheaper background in Holland, I know).
Dembele is obviously a world class talent mind and one I believe is out of our reach at this stage too. I simply don't think we have the money nor pulling power at the moment to attract the already proven talents at the biggest clubs.
No young winger has fantastic decision making or a final ball. But Dembele has everything else and more. It's so annoying we missed out on him last year. Mane and Dembele out wide would be something else.
Now that this Dembele train has arguably left the station we should perhaps consider a young Kluivert named Justin instead.
He has really impressed me this Ajax-kid; blistering explosive pace, clever use of the ball and his dads keen eye for goal. What really has surprised me though is how intelligent he seems both on and off the ball - impressive at such a tender age.
He's only 17 but we should at the very least follow his progress closely, he looks amazing early on.
