You'd choose Nani, Valencia and Young over Hernadez or Berbatov?
I dont think Berbatov will be there next year.

Them bastards are looking hot for the League again aren't they >🙁 >🙁

De Gea, Jones and Young are good signings, possibly another midfielder to come in as well.

I hope Chelsea and/or City pip them to first place as i don't think we're quite ready for a Title challenge just yet so... Anybody But Utd!!

Are they actually going to improve though?
Van Der Sar is better then De Gea.
Young is not a huge improvement on Nani or Valencia if any.
Jones won't be a regular starter this season either.

I dont think they have improved all that much, but they have reduced the squad age. De Gea will not be any better that VDS. Young will not be any better than Nani/Giggs. Jones will not play very much and wasnt even wanted here. Now he's signed for the mancs he's great.

the difference is, if valencia (or whoever) get crocked like valencia did last season they have more stength in depth and young will also help manu on the counter attack as they were awful away from home (yet still won the league at a canter).

If Alex Ferguson wasn't their manager that team wouldn't overly worry me.

how I wish in the late 80's early 90's we strengthened when we were on top like manu are now.
You only need to go back a couple of years when we were in a similar position, but sold instead of bought.

We bought too, but did so very badly.

Remember United have sold some of their best players at times as well, the difference is that they generally seem to make it less of a problem.

I'm not sure I promised it but based on a 100m loss last year their spending is surprising.

Which makes me think something has changed in the ownership structure. Its known that they moved their accounts to Delaware to give them greater privacy, they somehow managed to pay off over 200m in PIK debt, and rumours exist that some Qatari bought a share in the club. If that has happened then the picture changes a bit. If it hasnt then I dobt know what the fuck is going on. Before this month Uniteds net spend for the last five years was about 14m in total.

I certainly wanted Jones, and my recollection of the discussion at the time is that most of us did. Incidentally, while I don't suppose he'll get many league games at CB I can see him playing DM for them often enough.

That said, I agree with your overall assessment. De Gea in particular is still young and may need time to reach the required level.

could they be planning a big clear out? perhaps nani or valencia are on their way

so true. I think the moment disaster set in was the birth of alonso's child, it can all be traced back to that...

He also promised us we'd be competing for the title within 2 seasons, and that this DOF strategy would ensure less risky signings.

Henderson, Adam, Downing, Carroll.

80m quid.

Well the problem is we've given the manager the final say ob transfers. Not what i expected, its tactical suicide Ryan

when did ross say we were going to be competing for the title in 2 seasons?

the whole DoF thing is strange. henderson, adam, downing and carroll, you'd have to assume they are kenny's picks and if they are kenny's picks why do you need comolli?

Not Kenny's fault that Ross. The owners, whose virtues and business acumen you extolled agreed to that.

I'm sure we've all made a few bold predictions in our time that haven't come to fruition. No big deal lads. 😉

Yeah, i do think FSG are clued in, but they do make mistakes. Giving Kenny the final say on transfers will be the main reason we dont compete for the title if we havent within the next two years.

Why would a Qatari billionaire buy a football club or a share in a football club?
Its all about the prestige and showing the world you are rich and own a football club and then splashing the cash around like its monopoly money for giggles. I don't see them keeping it a secret. Maybe they really did have the Ronaldo money burning a hole in their pockets

Also your relying on the fact that Comolli's better at picking players.

The historical evidence suggests he's not.

It would be interesting to compare their records. Its not just about the players themselves as much as the deals we do for them. I think Comolli would be less likely to overpay for players like Downing.

I think "Premiership proven" is something managers place far too much importance in and are willing to overpay for.

to be fair kenny was responsible for argubly liverpool's best transfer summer ever and payed a premium for a the then unproven shearer.
Shearer was already an England international wasnt he?
imho england international doesn't = 'proven'
