The way I see it I'm gutted we've missed out on Jones but the priority for the cunts is midfield and not defence. We've tied up Henderson who was one of their top targets and they're yet to sign anyone to replace scholes or Hargreaves. They've got Gibson and Anderson who are wank and Giggs ain't all that. Whilst we do need a defender I'd rather we get someone who wants to play for us. So fuck you Phil Jones bring on Dann. Dann Dann Dann, he can't hear me!
Ha - i want to sign him now so we can all do that , just keep shouting "Dann" in a Partridge voice for minutes on end
i dont think danns good enough for our defence
Not sure he's Liverpool standard myself. A solid defender but not top quality in my view.

That's what makes missing out on Jones(to the scum of all teams) a proper kick in the nuts.

Good central defenders are hard to come by.

If Agger's to stay then we need to get a lot more games out of him... Can't keep relying on Skrtel and an ageing Carragher.

Arf. There was also an advert when someone did a voiceover of some rodent doing the same thing. Can't recall what it was advertising though.

It does mean that we were prepared to spend 16M on a CB. Which we still have.
Well we should go straight to Dortmund and offer it for either Subotic or Hummels

Avvy - i'd ask you what in god's holy name you're talking about but at the risk of getting a response i'm going to have to play it safe this time.

Going back to my sociology text books, it appears that Jones has chosen instant gratification (seeing the back of Fergie's head from the CL sub's bench) over deferred gratification (definite chance of regular 1st team football and becoming a vital cog in Kenny's project).

Fuck him, like Cahill this reeks of getting some more money in his pocket than we're offering. Tim to get DC back out in the company car looking for another young CB.

someone (neutral possibly) posted this in the Jordan Henderson thread on redcafe:

"Seems this thread has gone a bit quiet now United are suppsedly splashing a similar amount of cash for a young English player - cue the United tinted specs.

Henderson: "the scousers have been ripped off, too expensive, waste of money, only because he's english" etc etc.

Jones: "great signing, well done Fergie, great potential, bargain for such a young player" etc etc.

Oh the irony"

Cunts aren't they?

Even Hayley McQueen is at it the stupid wench. She's tweeted how Henderson's a good lad doesn't drink works hard and one for the future but at 20m it's #steep

A minute later she says Jones signing for utd at 16m nothing ekse.

Hypocrite of the highest order at least Henderson's played for the full season and got into the senior England team.

She used to work at scum tv did she not?

I think, they (Blackburn) still didn't forget that "game over" gesture from two years ago. Sooo it's probably Rafa's fault we didn't get this guy.

*runs*

Pete, I made a post yesterday about our main problem being not spending money well, even if the amount of money spent is always an issue.

You then saw fit to have a dig by suggesting that it was easier to spend well when you get your first targets.

That's all well and good, but this isnt the first time we've been outbid by the Scum (or others) for players we wanted, and it's not going to be the last either. What's important is to then seek alternative targets who are as capable, which is where Comolli and Kenny have to try to get it right.

Yes, spending well IS easier when you get your first choice targets, but failing to do so isnt an excuse for spending badly afterwards.

Apologies if you weren't getting a dig in, but thats what it seemed like.

so just out of curiosity who is everyones preferred signing for a CB now?
Preferred? Mines always been Cahill but since he's going to City I'll have to say Dann.
I'm just trying to be realistic. I could have said Hummels, Subotic etc but they're not leaving Dortmund to join us.

I hope we at least try.

It's going to be a tough one though; seeing the Scum splash 16 million on Jones is clearly going to get antennae twitching when it comes to either of those two.

well if we were willing to spend £16m on jones , that's like €20m which is probably more than enough to get one of them . Neuer cost about that and his name and rep is 10 times higher in german football.

€20m could buy a top class defender on the european market .

have a strong feeling we'll be gutted about this for years, actually. he's one of those massive bastards you need and it's good if they're english.

x2.

A top class central defender is priority this summer.

Fair enough the transfer window hasn't even opened yet but the fact that there's a shortage of quality players in that position is a real concern.

Anyone a fan of Tobias Alderweireld...the belgian lad for Ajax? Capped 11 times for the belgians but probably down the pecking order behind Kompany, Vermaalen and an ageing Van Buyten. The belgian left back Nicolas Lombaerts isnt half bad either. He plays for zenith.

i'm going to sound like my mother here, but 'the world doesn't revolve around you, you know!'

i really really don't want to get my hopes up here.

It's probably bullshit lads. Some prick on Twitter making something up and watching the story spread like wildfire.

perosnally i'd like us to go for a similar kind of player: a top young defender with his whole career ahead of him, and seeing as there aren't really any others in england i'd prefer us to scour europe for one.

i don't follow european football that closely, but i suppose the kind of names being mentioned are sakho from PSG, and weren't we linked with some guy called rolando from porto? i know all i'm doing is recycling exotic names, but i'd rather we go for real class and potential over someone like scott dann, who does seem v much second best to these kind of guys.
