Genuine question, do some of us just want Phil Jones because united now want him? Fair enough Gary25 has been banging on about him since the day he joined the forum but not many others we're that pushed until very recently.

I was sold after seeing the youtube vid (against United) that was posted about a million pages back. No wonder Ferguson is interested. He would have been intrigued with Jones's performance that day. I'm shocked Arsenal aren't involved. I suppose Wenger would rather pick up an unknown for 500k and try mould him into a world beater. Jones would be perfect for them beside the classy Vermaelen.
 
Sky saying that the scum beat the Gooners for the Jones signing (Wenger was talking to him last night), no mention of us being involved.

Nothing to do with Man U wanting him mate, we had him all but signed before they even came on the scene. They weren't even in the equation up until last night/today...it was us and Arsenal and it looked like we were in pole position.

I'm gutted about it because Jones in my view is a class act and someone who could slot in straight away in a problem position for us.
 
Fair point ILD. Its a fine line between 'Phil who? From fucking Blackburn?! How much?!? Why's noone else in for him?' and 'United want him. He must be the only player worth having and we'll never win anything now'.

Yeah thats fair enough, you wanted him with ages but i'm sure a lot of us only wanted him cause United did. I fell into the same trap with Adam. I wasn't too bothered until united got involved.

You've exaggerated this on and on over the last few pages. First he was at Anfield yesterday, then he'd had a medical, now he was 'all but signed'.

It's not uncommon for players to talk to various clubs when such clubs are interested. Maybe we didn't speak to him at all, maybe he just fancies United more because they're Champions and they're also in the CL. No one knows but stop making out like we've fucked up, it's not that black and white, you don't know for sure that we've even spoken to him and even if we have, there's enough reasons why he'd choose United over us.
 
ok so we might have lost out on this one but at the very least it's great that it looks like we were going to spend over £30m on 2 players in 2 days when 6 or 7 months ago there was talk of administration and even relegation (ok only a little on that one) !! .

Yeah reports say he was talking with Wenger lastnight so he must have been looking around . And as i said earlier , it hurts but until we start winning things and have champs league football , some players will chose them over us . We just have to get on with it and prove them wrong , make them regret it .

Yes we have to accept the fact that, whether we like it or not, some clubs more to offer than us, and that not all players who are up for transfer are Liverpool fans.

Pete, I made a post yesterday about our main problem being not spending money well, even if the amount of money spent is always an issue.

You then saw fit to have a dig by suggesting that it was easier to spend well when you get your first targets.

That's all well and good, but this isnt the first time we've been outbid by the Scum (or others) for players we wanted, and it's not going to be the last either. What's important is to then seek alternative targets who are as capable, which is where Comolli and Kenny have to try to get it right.

Yes, spending well IS easier when you get your first choice targets, but failing to do so isnt an excuse for spending badly afterwards.

Well Ferdinand is approaching 33 and Vidic is approaching 30.

As regards the others, it could be that Fergie just thinks Jones is better couldn't it? If we were to buy him that is essentially what we would be saying about Skrtel, Agger and Wilson
