PL Opposition Tidbits

I'd forgotten that

I remember queuing up for the Kop and checking whether the BBC van was there, indicating whether or not we were due to be on MOTD that evening. I don't remember looking for ITV vans for the big match, but, checking wiki, that did keep running until 1992 so they must have also been a feature.

EDIT - oh just spotted the Sunday highlights version of The Big Match ended in 1981; that explains why I only remember it as a young kid & it doesn't feature in my match going memories.

I lived in North Yorkshire back then and the ITV regions sometimes showed different games. I could get a really grainy picture from Tyne Tees for those Sundays that we were on there but not Yorkshire TV

Top 5 this season officially secures a place in next season's CL.

We could see a record 7 sides from the Prem if Arsenal and 1 of Spurs/Utd both win their European competitions. Could you imagine Arsenal and Spurs sitting as the leading figures of European football, I'd feel the urge to drive my car off a bridge.

Or Man Utd.

Manchester United will only listen to offers of £52m (60m euros) for Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund, with Juventus interested in the 22-year-old. (Tuttomercatoweb - in Italian), external

Manchester City will have to pay £100m if they want to sign Nottingham Forest and England midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, 25, this summer. (Talksport)

£52m for Hojlund, there's only one club stupid enough to pay for him and they have him already. I liked Gibbs-White at £50m, but we know Man U are stupid enough, so they in my opinion will have no contest if they pay that much

Wouldn’t Arsenal would have to finish outside the CL spots and win it to achieve that?

My senses feel Hujlund will have a decent career post United. It was piss poor career more to a heavily dysfunctional side and club that came too early, but I think he has the attributes of a decent player. He's in a fortunate position in that there is a striker shortage around the game and he will get opportunities elsewhere.

I'd be surprised if anyone paid that for him, though.

See he was bang average for a bang average side in Italy. I dunno, I just don't see enough in him to think he'll be anything other than an unspectacular striker in a mid table side.

Him and Nunez II

some influencers have turned on Amorim already.
Can they afford to sack him and his whole team?
There's a chance they could still make CL

That club has needed dynorodding for years and he's finally setting about doing that. Going on current results it might be understandable for them to get rid of him, but I actually reckon they'll drive themselves even deeper into the doodoo if that's the way they go.

Shame innit. :vamp:
