I've never had much of a problem with @cloggypop tbf, he seems sound enough. He's never missed an opportunity to snipe at me right from the start, though, so I guess he finds it even harder to tolerate my views than he does to argue against them.

But otherwise he's ok. No hard feelings if he hates me, particularly.

I don't hate you.

:)

Ok, I've calmed down.

I know this is mostly just deliberate baiting but anyway, for the record: I'm right wing but

I'm not a Tory
I'm not a UKIP supporter
I hate the government so want less of it, not more
I don't like big business
I'm not even particularly authoritarian

If people want to caricature me for being anti-socialist it's not generally something I can take in good humour.

@peterhague I think you are suffering a hangover of the discussion on British Classes which was spot on but wound up a few people who are chasing you around a few threads.

I believe people like me are generally referred to by polite people as 'libertarians'.

I don't like the badge though cos it implies an adherence to something close to a religion.

Small state, as small as possible is basically what I'd like. Personally I don't see anything wrong in being rich, so I wouldn't want to tax people just for the sake of it. Equality wouldn't register in terms of a policy goal.

OK I'll stop now because otherwise Summeronions will sound more and more justified in calling me pretentious.

Mate I don't mind, really.

I should expect more of this stuff really given how I talk to people on here.

Coming soon: Nicky Allt celebrates the historic win on penalties against Boro by staging '14-13,' a play described as 'funny, poignant, socially aware and yet whimsical,' at the Royal Court Theatre next January, followed by a DVD, a book, a CD and a computer game. Meanwhile, local poet Dave Kirby will be reading from his new book of poems, 'A Lorra Bovva Against Boro,' which was inspired by the same game, at Waterstones in College Lane. This event will be filmed by Nicky Allt, who will then recreate it with a madcap subplot and transform it into a play, before using that as the basis for a musical, which will then be turned into a pantomime, for which Dave Kirby will collaborate with Allt on the songs. Once this has completed its run, the two local writers plan to use Kickstarter to fund a project that will involve turning the pantomime into a movie. 'I think the demand is there,' said Allt. 'Mainly from me and Dave'.

Have to say some of the points Modo makes are right as well - there are typically players who it is 'fashionable' to heap praise on or to lay criticism on. That is nothing new. He is no similar in his long term championing of a player than the likes of Mystic was with Hendo, KHL was with Agger, Oncy was with Aquilani, Ryan is with Allen, GKMacca with Yesil, ILD with Rodriguez etc.

We all have our favourite players, times when we think a player is being criminally under rated.

@gkmacca started the Yesil bandwagon as a parody of those forum posters who champion young players being promoted to the first team without having really seen them play i.e RAFA PLAY PACHECO.

So assuming I haven't dreamt that, I believe that is a WOOSHHHHH

Ah dammit! I thought it was based off a inside track of how good he is.

Epic 3 year long whoooooosh

If you bring up the bottom and give them a fighting chance, the whole of society benefits. Right wing people don't grasp this in my experience.

I'm a socialist and am yet to hear a coherent counter argument. You seem like a smart guy and could probably proffer one. I wouldn't agree, mind.

I may have a gander at the classes thread. Perhaps your view on it is in there.

I would say that if you look at the very bottom of society, ie poor and unskilled immigrants, to various rich countries over the last century, most of them have demonstrated admirably that they give themselves a fighting chance well enough by their own efforts.

It's the ones who have fighting chances thrust upon them who I tend to feel sorry for.
