I think Gerrard definitely has a role to play in the team, a massive role, I just don't think it's in that one smack bang infront of the back 4. A lot of this season he's been involved in a lot of our goals with his hollywood balls and set pieces, but he's also been involved in far too many of the defensive slips and cockups.
It's like Johnson, first and foremost for a right back, you'd want him to be able to defend, and if he can attack too, that's a big bonus. For a player sitting smack bang infront of the back for, you'd want him to be able to help out with defending, and gerrard doesn't seem to be able to any more, and a lot of the time his cockups as heaping pressure on an already ropey back line, they need help, not extra shit to deal with.
I'd really like to see gerrard not have the responsibility of helping out the back four, but play a little further forward and boss the midfield and be our play maker, and then if the defence get in the shit, we've got a boss DM to help them out and cover them and put in last minute tackles.
If we had a fantastic, schooled back four, it probably wouldn't matter a shit where gerrard was. But they're an inconsistant bunch of wankers that all need babysitting.

He hasn't the legs or the discipline to play further forward anymore though, earlier on in the season that was evident, i guess thats why Rodgers moved him, he just cant get up and down the pitch anymore all game and to be honest we dont need him in attack anymore, we are more than fine without him there.

Is Gerrards defending really that bad? fair enough he gets caught out of position at times but hes done a good job there on the whole, most of our defensive issues come from wide, its not like we get cut open through the middle like we do down the wings, teams know where our obvious weaknesses are, you dont often see them trying to go through us, they go around us and down the sides and target our full backs way more often than not, the full back positions are the biggest issue out of the whole lot for me.

I know where you are coming from, totally agreed with the same opinion 5 months ago but we have just got 84 points winning game after game and Gerrard has played a big positive part in that, if it ain't broke and all that.
 
Really flat performance but can't really blame them and in the end two quality deliveries from Stevie made the difference.
Considering 14/15 teams next season will come and park the bus it is something we need to be ready for next season

And therein lies the problem, and not with Gerrard per se. For the style of football we play, pressure offensive / ultra-fast counter-attacking, he is near perfect in that position, very very few teams have someone that creative in that position, that can turn defence into all out attack in an instant.

Ally that with attacking FBs and there are going to be gaps and space for opponents to run into. We need a defence that can handle that more often than not. I'm really hoping that Ilori turns out to be that special CB we desperately require - a CB with uber-pace enabling us to play higher up the pitch - and that we get in a defensive coach (and new GK coach for Ming) capable of schooling them to position themselves to handle those situations. Come home Sami.
 
I had another 5/6 pints, went into a nail bar and was fucking about (they'd left the door open), had the best bacon cheese burger that the world has ever known and stumbled in about 12ish.

As post match evenings go it wasn't a bad one.
