Pre Match Pre Match - Newcastle (A) - Monday 20:00

Its not often anyone agrees with you Moron but I dont think I could handle a season of games like Fridays.
Id much rather score 2 and just keep the defence solid and sealed shut.

I'm guessing you didnt watch the game on Sunday.
From the top of my head, not booking because solely because of the time on the clock, Arsenal deliberately trying to impede the keeper to get the 8 second timer to complete, I’m 50/50 on the foul on the weak ass keeper, the pen and being a fat cunt.

Yeah, I think the foul on the keeper is something that other refs would have allowed as well. Just got to prepare for that type of scenario.

i’ve heard a few people discussing this further and one point they made was that keepers are kind of scared to resist because of VAR. the jeopardy is completely one sided, if the keeper pushes the arsenal player in the same manner it could be a pen, worst case for the arsenal player is a free kick.

i really don’t like the tactic, imo it’s grubby and arsenal are crossing the line with it

I think it's one of those things where even if it isn't against the rules then the rules need to change. Like you say it's a dirty tactic and completely against the spirit of the game

imo this specific example is against the rules but yet again we’re falling into subjectivity and consistency.

i think this tactic evolved from challenging the keeper to deliberately standing in front of the keeper to what arsenal did which is pushing into the keeper with use of an arm. hopefully they can clearly legislate against the current evolution of the tactic.

*there’s probably a lot of anti arsenal bias from me here

If you can't be within 1m of a wall at a free kick, I'll never understand obstructing the keeper.

It's tricky because it'd probably have to left to the ref's judgement. I'd probably just say you can't deliberately obstruct the keeper's movement. There might be some edge cases that are hard to call but what Arsenal do would be blatantly against that. Why does anyone need to be obstructing the keeper except to get an unfair advantage? It's just cheating.

It should be fairly easy. If an attacking player impedes the keeper without a genuine attempt to play the ball, its at the very least a free out, and probably a booking. And it's pretty clear, in this case, he didn't attempt to go for the ball, his feet didn't leave the ground.

I think in general, they should be giving out bookings more freely for things that are not good for the game like this, with an aim to just cut them out, and not having to give those bookings...

Yeah agreed. And a keeper 'could' dive to overstate the contact but then if its not deemed a foul its likely a goal for the opposition.

I didn/t watch this game, but did VAR look at the incident? I'd have thought its a foul by Saliba as he is still initiating contact with the keeper as the ball is in the air.

The problem with refs judgement is that they're inconsistent and shit.

Id almost like every rule to be so concisely described that it becomes impossible for misinterpretation, as that's where people get fucked off. Like, I can disagree and get angry with a rule, but I'm more fucked off when a rule is seemingly not applied or applied incorrectly.

This will be a tricky game. All of English racists will be let lose to hate upon Liverpool.

ps This is American forum. Right? Well, then you gotta know that Liverpool and Scousers ARE HATED in England. Hated. Institutionally by BBC and SKY and then also by the masses. Serious shit. Hillsborough is related to that stuff. Deaths. Real deaths. Very, very unlike in America when it comes to sports. In America it is just all business and corporations and then that sort of abuse/corruption/shit. In England it gets . r e a l . . d i r t y . Deaths. Hatred.

Yes, most of us are from either South or North Dakota. What's this Scousers thing you're talking about?

Yeah objective rules are better but I'm just not sure you could have one in this situation. Maybe you could but off the top of my head I was struggling. You certainly couldn't have an exclusion zone cos the keeper needs to be able to move.

Cool… when do we start talking about the offence taking head shots from the punt into the end zone late on in the final quarter of this soccer game thing!!

Chiesa late winner and cements his new cult status as super sub…
This. And he must be used so. Physically he is frailish and injury prone so that playing him later on when defenders are tired can really optimize his contributions. Technically he is superb and he is also a big-game and big-moment player.
