Pre Match Pre Match - Newcastle (A) - Monday 20:00

I’d argue that any top player would likely have a stellar stats season if granted the same position

I mean, that's just not true, what other players have ever hit those stats in a 38 game season? I can give you a help, it's none.

That's no to say there isn't weaknesses in his game, and that we need to manage them, but the approach to doing so isn't putting the best player in the league on the bench.

It’s hard to say for sure given the way we’ve - on record - been set up purely to get the most out of him…which of course is testament to how highly he’s prized.

You keep saying he’s the best player in the league as if that’s undisputed…I don’t agree…and even if he was last year that doesn’t afford him that title right now at his age, else we’re heading towards a situation in time akin to Utd fucking up their whole system of play to massage Ronaldo’s ego.

We have enough top quality players to rotate even the Salah’s of this world if it benefits the whole team in crunch games away from home.

I think Frimpong will be fine. He's looked pleasingly assured at RB, and if he has been caught out, he's been able to use that insane pace to get back and recover. Kerkez has been my bigger concern. I think he needs to play his way into the system with a bit more caution and maturity rather than trying to stamp his mark on the side in a gung-ho fashion. He's a full-blooded, aggressive, energetic player, and I'm delighted he's here, but for me, he needs to get all the basics right, adapt to his new team-mates and function well in a unit before he starts being as full-on as we've seen. Of the two, I think Frimpong has benefited from taking a steadier approach into the side.

It’s fucking Newcastle without their best player, not prime Barcelona or last seasons PSG ffs.

Drop Salah?

Jesus Christ.

Wow, imagine my surprise that you’ve completely disregarded my wider points, questioning tone or any nuance in my posts.

You do you.

All of those are irrelevant when your main point advocates dropping our best player and makes the entire post laughable.

I mean come on, even if your points have value in a wider context, do you think for one second Slot would entertain any of his coaching staff recommending dropping Mo Salah away to Newcastle?

Seriously?

Bring him on for 20 mins if we are chasing a goal? What is he? Chiesa?

Ffs, it’s a laughable position to take and clearly Slot weighed up the balance issue when keeping Salah for another year at least.

I actually think the additional attacking threat will free Salah up more and he’s not in the same solar system as Ronaldo in terms of a lack of defensive work.

Frimpong injured it seems.

I'll replace him with Szoboszlai. Has the speed to keep up with Gordon and also let's us swarm their midfield if we need.

Gomez 100%.

Gomez couldnt train for 3 days after the Bournemouth game. He's beyond broken. If we start him against Newcastle he'll get injured, 100%. But he might start obviously if "fit".

The good news is that Conor Bradley was back in training today. Should start against Arsenal.

Didn’t Jones get a place in the MOTM top 3 at right back last season?

His only MOTM was Chelsea and wasn’t RB that day but I seemed to recall he did play. Was it the derby?

The whole Salah doesn’t track back and leave us vulnerable thing… is there actual stats behind that or just SCM thing??
It would be totally mental for us to drop a player who finished the last game as strobgly anyone in the last 15 mins on the 2nd game of the season with a full 8 days rest. This defo isn’t the time. Salah will start for the right reasons.

Salah did a bbc interview.

On playing a different role under Slot: "You can see the numbers. Now I don't have to defend much. The tactics are quite different. I said 'as long as you rest me defensively I will provide offensively', so I am glad that I did.

You mean the same game he let the ball roll his feet before Gordon latched onto it and scored?
What did he do after? Just one slip doesn’t define a game. Recovered well and we won even with Virgil sent off. Just how many times have these might geordies beaten us in the last 20yrs?

Salah had 10 defensive contributions, which is a lot, against Bournemouth. So the lazy and doesnt track back part isnt true.

That’s not same thing though, and doesn’t answer the question . Him having more license to do so offensively doesn’t mean he doesn’t do his share or leave us more vulnerable. So what do the stats say? Is there actual support?

All of those are irrelevant when your main point advocates dropping our best player and makes the entire post laughable. I don’t consider Salah to be out current best player and believe his stats are inflated by the way we’ve set up around him. The stats belie the decline in his all round play and complete lack of defensive contribution. What in pre-season or against Bournemouth made you think that he was our best player now?

I mean come on, even if your points have value in a wider context, do you think for one second Slot would entertain any of his coaching staff recommending dropping Mo Salah away to Newcastle? I clearly haven’t said that Slot would, but can see a scenario later this season that he might.

Seriously?

Bring him on for 20 mins if we are chasing a goal? What is he? Chiesa? Err, no. He’s an ageing top player like others we’ve had and used that way in certain games.

Ffs, it’s a laughable position to take and clearly Slot weighed up the balance issue when keeping Salah for another year at least. It’s not laughable, it just requires you to non-defensively take up other views and wider context than just individual stats.

I actually think the additional attacking threat will free Salah up more and he’s not in the same solar system as Ronaldo in terms of a lack of defensive work. Disagreed. Salah himself is on record stating that he’s absolved of defensive work. The team have compensated around a skewed system for some time now and that won’t change as he declines (but the effectiveness will). We’re building a talented squad of world class young talent I want to see shine in an integrated way, not hamstrung by having to play to one players strengths who won’t be here in 1-2 years time.

I just asked a question dude, you said Trent's always done well against these so I pointed out an error he made that led to a goal and now you're asking how many times they've beaten us as if the 2 correlates. We won our last game 4-2 and over half the team were fucking useless.

The BBC didn’t post the stats but he says himself the numbers are there and I don’t have to defend.

Well, for the first game of the season he was involved in as many defensive duels as central midfielders/centre backs usually are, so the numbers are there. He works hard, without question.

Yeah, there's a Adam Cleary video from last season that stated most attacks came down our right.

Plus you just need to watch the matches to know. Mo was usually our furthest forward attacker.

Yes but just pointing that doesn’t what he did positively for other games aren’t worth of note which was my point. Gordon was crap 2nd half against 10 man team at home and even their own fans were critical to they couldn’t take adv against a Virgil-less defense.

Well I only watched every single game last season. Saw him defend and come back into mid/def to tackle opposition too. Attack down the right? But that isn’t just down to one player. Any actual stats? Not having go, just wondering.
