All of those are irrelevant when your main point advocates dropping our best player and makes the entire post laughable. I don’t consider Salah to be out current best player and believe his stats are inflated by the way we’ve set up around him. The stats belie the decline in his all round play and complete lack of defensive contribution. What in pre-season or against Bournemouth made you think that he was our best player now?
I mean come on, even if your points have value in a wider context, do you think for one second Slot would entertain any of his coaching staff recommending dropping Mo Salah away to Newcastle? I clearly haven’t said that Slot would, but can see a scenario later this season that he might.
Seriously?
Bring him on for 20 mins if we are chasing a goal? What is he? Chiesa? Err, no. He’s an ageing top player like others we’ve had and used that way in certain games.
Ffs, it’s a laughable position to take and clearly Slot weighed up the balance issue when keeping Salah for another year at least. It’s not laughable, it just requires you to non-defensively take up other views and wider context than just individual stats.
I actually think the additional attacking threat will free Salah up more and he’s not in the same solar system as Ronaldo in terms of a lack of defensive work. Disagreed. Salah himself is on record stating that he’s absolved of defensive work. The team have compensated around a skewed system for some time now and that won’t change as he declines (but the effectiveness will). We’re building a talented squad of world class young talent I want to see shine in an integrated way, not hamstrung by having to play to one players strengths who won’t be here in 1-2 years time.
