Pre Match Pre Match - Palace - (Anfield South) - Sunday - 15:00

But its a friendly...

Indeed, a glorified one at that. But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s about time and place for a 16 year old.
If he had been subbed on and we had lost 3-2 then this would have been a whole other conversation and part of the spotlight on him.

No, not for me, I would have actually seen it as a friendly in that case and not cared about result.
Slot played fucking Salah for 90 mins again and he was terrible.
Nothing has changed, I'm convinced he's going to run the players into the ground again because of his lack of rotation.

There was absolutely no reason to leave Rio on the bench.

I think Slot will trust Ngumoha, certainly in the ball, but there's a degree of keeping the hype down too, alongside managing his minutes. Additionally Palace are rapid on the counter and a strong, physical team. Given Kerkez was getting caught out pretty regularly it would have been asking a lot for him to help us off the ball. I was watching in the pub wanting him to come on, but the day after I get it.

Really we should have been able to see the game out but we lost all control of the middle, and the subs didn't help us regain it.

I think everything has it place and time. Yesterday at 2-2 wasn't it imho for a 16 year old to come on.

If you're on the bench you should be ready to get minutes. If it didn't work out it's fine, he's 16. What we do know is gakpo spent the entire game huffing and puffing and being exceptionally poor. That wasn't working. Why continue?

Arguably what slot could have done was taken gakpo off, kept Ekitike on and go more 442 diamond.

Absolutely everything was going through wirtz and Ekitike. Taking off Ekitike forced wirtz to be isolated and a lot less involved. Taking off wirtz for another 10 made less sense.

The game needed an injection of pace and an outball. Salah and gakpo aren't out balls. For all my critiques of Diaz, even I said if we didn't sell I wouldn't be fussed, because he offered something.

We're now 4 days away from the league kicking off and if Rio isn't a valid bench option then we have 3 forwards. That's it. 3.

Rio was quite handy getting back and helping the LB against Bilbao last Monday.

We don't have just the one "first choice midfield" and I don't see that changing. I also think you and those who agree with you underestimate the importance Slot will continue to place on Szobo's incredible engine. Let's see how things go.
I also think he did really well in pre-season. I was a big critic of Szobo last season, but have been impressed how he's done playing deeper. The issue we have - and one that keeps me praying for a Stefan Bajcetic miracle - is that we don't really have anyone who can deputise for Gravenberch. I'm very happy with Szobo and Macca sharing a role, but we don't have a similar enough alternative to Gravy.

Nothing has changed is the type of hyperbole we laugh at Arsenal fans for spouting.

4 days until the new season and it’s already starting.

I read a couple of rumours now that the reason the Jota/Silva silence wasn't observed by Palace fans, was due to our booing of the national anthem.

Not sure how true it is. Only thing I will say is, we've done numerous silences now. Although you can't tell people how to grieve, I do think we should draw a line under silences for them now.

It occurred to me yesterday watching it on TV that we should stop booing the anthem, simply because it's disrespectful to the person singing it. Personally I couldn't care less about the anthem itself but this is always a big career moment for the singer and to have it drowned out by jeers just undeniably spoils it for them.

Amazing how we became shit in the 3 and a bit months since we won the League.

Must be one of them existential crises.

And all it took was a Community shield game. Virgil and Salah past it, poor defense and the players will be ran into the ground yet again. Must be a new record even for SCM.

I didn't see the game, however, what I have heard from my friends the team's selection, new formation and performance topped by the king Salah (here for the money) were terrible!! The pre-season games proved that we will leak goals 2 or 3 per game, Slot honeymoon is over, back to reality feature. Salah will not shit this season, LFC did a big mistake to extend his contract! Szobo is over rated average player, and the same applies to Gravy, VVD won't keep up with football pace this season. We have no striker at present, and can't rely on Ekitike, I hear he is injured! If Slot don't revert to his defensive formation of last season, we will get nowhere. Three tough games are coming up!!

Let's hope we improve quickly for Friday's match. Good Luck

The funniest one was when Ali rolled it out to him and we had a 4v2 on the break or something silly and he ended up delaying the pass only to hit one of their players backside.

Don’t blame him though, the loss and shit 2nd half performance is entirely on Slot.

I don't blame Gakpo but ideally he is a rotational LF / FW (i.e. Jota) rather than nailed on starter.

We have Salah who is a cut inside floaty player, Wirtz who is a floaty player with a tendency to drift, Ekitike who likes to drift left... and Gakpo who likes to cut inside.

We're missing a proper ball carrier on the left now that Diaz is gone who has the ability to take the fullback on the outside.

Hugo Ekitiké's opening goal in the Community Shield versus Crystal Palace finished off a passing move lasting 66 seconds, involving nine of their 11 players.
