Pre-Season deets

So I missed this. Because apparently there’s a time difference thing I forgot about.
Were we any good? And are we gonna win the league?

Can’t wait for our “his name is Rio” chant

Okay, a crude effort... 😀

Creedence Clearwater Revival: Have you ever seen the rain?

Someone told me long ago
This young lad, they call him Rio
I know, he's been coming for some time

When he's ready, so they say
It'll be a glorious day
I know, setting fields on fire

I wanna know, have you ever seen him play?
I wanna know, have you ever seen him play?
Coming up, his name is Rio.

With help from AI:

(To the rhythm of Duran Duran’s "Rio")

🎵 They call him Rio and he dances past his man,
🎵 Ngumoha’s lightning with a finish in his plan!
🎵 He hits the net, the crowd begins to roar,
🎵 Ohhh Rio! He’s gonna score one more!

Or this:

🎵 They call him Rio and he dances past his man,
🎵 Cuts inside and scores—just like only Rio can!
🎵 He plays with fire, he plays with flair,
🎵 Ngumoha’s magic everywhere!

🎵 Rio! Rio! Running down the wing!
🎵 Rio! Rio! Makes the Kop all sing!
🎵 Rio! Rio! Watch him bag a goal!
🎵 Rio Ngumoha—he’s got it all!

From 1:15 onwards... watch Nyoni:

1. attacks the space at the far post when he sees Frimpong getting ready to cross; shows Nunez how to finish

2. lovely give-and-go with Ngumoha, takes out 3 opponents with a sweet return pass on a bad pitch to Ngumoha (Ngumoha shot saved)

3. continues his run beside Ngumoha that pulls away one defender in the lead-up to Ngumoha's goal.

Its difficult not to get a bit over excited about Rio and his potential. But he’s ready to contribute this season. No doubt.

Just like last season we still look fragile at the book. Konate looks off-pace, I know its friendlies so fitness is more important, however, playing that high-line does place extra pressure on our backline

We weren’t fragile at the back last season though, and I don’t think we’ll be that this season either.
It’s pre season and the only thing defensively that’s annoying is Konate over committing at times and being poor on the ball.
But that will be ironed out when the serious business starts.

How many times did we give up the lead or win just narrowly?

That has always been a part of Konate's game. He's always done that once every few matches when the season gets underway, so we shouldn't be surprised with the greater regularity of these mistakes in pre-season. Those over-commits have never been ironed out of his game, so it's just a weakness we have to live and deal with.

That highline will cost us if we are not careful
The high line, under Klopp as well, was always a high risk high reward thing. The high press would often help us allow the whole team to remain compact when pressing, giving us lots of counter pressing opportunities + resulting attacking phases. At the same time, the odd time a team successfully puts some quick passes together or lumps the ball behind our last defenders, we'd look really vulnerable.
But the former shaped our team for the last decade and gave us one of the best defensive records in the league for many seasons. It's just that we look really shit on the occasions where we are exposed.

The defence can go deeper but that would mean our counter pressing becomes less effective. Double-edged sword.
