Pre-Season deets

It's strange we kept Gakpo out wide and played Doak in the middle. At least Gakpo has better size and played there a bit under Klopp. Doak is just a ghost right now in that position and is clearly overmatched physically.

Cresswell doesn’t sound like what we need though. Not good on the ball and the fastest.

Guehi and Leoni would be good

My stream died, so it was funny to see we pulled one back, to then immediately concede again

Because Doak isn't part of Slot's plans

It'll defnitely be one of them. Wouldn't surprise if it was cresswell, with guehi next summer

I suppose it makes sense to tie any Guehi deal to Konate's situation. Sign him when and if Konate goes.

This summer we just need a backup. Someone youngish who's good enough to play a decent role but not start every week. Someone like Quansah maybe.

Decent run out, much better first half than second, which looked ragged.

Rio and Nyoni looked decent. Morton, Stephenson, Doak not so much.

The defending side of our defence is pretty weak at the moment. I hope we are bringing in at least one starting quality CB and another CB / defensive minded DM. One injury away from lining up with dross at the back and world class up front, which is an awful balance.

Been saying this all transfer season - maybe I'm the only one that wanted 5 CBs !

We should definetly buy 1-2 CBs. Guehi is a must
Other than that I wouldn’t read to much into today’s defensive display. We played midfielders and left backs as CBs and had a makeshift midfield. The gaps and space we saw today won’t happen when people play in their familiar positions.

The funniest thing from today’s game is the tactical analysis that Arsenal fans are doing of our game vs their game against Milan.
They’re such a weird insecure fan base.

I didn't watch the game, but it always feels our defence is the last thing to come up to pace before the start of the season, and the first thing to drop off when we have nothing left to play for, it makes sense, it's the area which requires the most concentration, and playing for something gives you that focus, I wouldn't be that worried. Still, agree with Hansern, Guehi or someone similar is a must.

It's been said for years now but it remains a complete waste of time counting Gomez in any defensive numbers. At best he's a fifth choice CB that you might play the rare times he's fit and there's a Carling Cup game approaching.

I don;t think we have had 2 regular CBs play together yet - in the 3 matches so far it has always been one of Virgil, Gomez or Konate alongside a makeshift. Right?

What stood out was the gaps in the squad. If Slot wants two players in every position then we should be able to put out two strong XIs.

Mac, Ekitike, Endo and Gomez not there, whilst Chiesa, Nunez, Diaz look to be sold anyway but we could def do with Isak, Guehi and a n other.

(Having many LBs isnt a help!)

Decent run out for the lads, good first half.....bit of a dead 2nd. Milan pretty much played their strongest XI for the best part of 70mins so it was good test particuarly for the u21 lads. Conditions were beyond terrible, the pitch not much better.

Annoying to have so many players unavailable at short notice for various reasons, which led to one too many players being played out of position.

But how fucking good does Florian look? Robbed of 2 assists because Mo and Harvey completely flopped their lines and with the latter, we saw again why he'll end up being sold.

& we need to see more of the Treymoha this season.
