Pre-Season deets

Only watched the Wirtz first half highlights. The guy is quality. Excellent at finding space and working in tight areas, and has a good change of pace to exploit the space he creates.

If we get Isak, he's going to absolutely feast on the sort of pass he played Elliot (who wasn't quick enough or good enough on his right foot, to take the pass into his stride).

I’d be after the gay and another. Even if it’s a journeyman to use in case of emergency whilst we pull together the Virgil succession planning.

I’ve not watched any of pre season, but was Stephenson any good? Saw he got good game time at Dundee last season.

Defo short on a starting CB unless we plan to rely on Endo & Grav… but then we are light at DM/CM

He was decent. Played as a right back and his passing was great. Lost Leao for the opening goal but other than that he was decent. Another loan move will be good for him.

Being pre-season, I wouldn’t want to draw too many conclusions, particularly as key players were missing, playing out of position or rotated heavily.

However, there are a few things and the sentiments have been already aired in the is thread.

- we absolutely need to sign a CB.
- if we’re selling Diaz we need someone else to play on the left, as good and as improved as Rio looks he’s not ready to play 30+ games
- Wirtz looks great but I want to see him with a forward to play.
- our FBs are all over the place - like they’ve been asked to play like Trent and have started by nailing all his worst attributes
- I’d be keen on someone else covering Mo other than Frimpong - not that he was bad, but he doesn’t feel like a forward in our false 9 system (not that we’ll play that all the time).

Personally, I don't think too much weight should be placed on this performance. We were missing seven senior players, played without any strikers, and several players didn't play in their natural positions.
The only meaningful insights I got from this game were the individual performances.
Rio, Gravy, Flo and Szobo were the standouts.

Imagine if Jota was playing in front of Wirtz.
What a loss.
We just have to get Isak.

I have watched our game against AC Milan, the team formation was odd by playing three at the back, a recipe for a disaster and we concede some may goals and we still have big problem in finishing! More quality players are needed to come in.

We were missing 7 players though and playing central midfielders and left backs at CB. Nyoni was a 6.

No point using it as anything else bar fitness.

Exactly. I was excited by the interplay by the forwards in the first half. Arsed about our issues in defence when we had loads out
