Looking at that squad, I think Borini will not get much playing time. He won't even be in the matchday squad for most games, now that Balotelli is here, Lallana is fit and Lambert has already proven to Rodgers he can be useful as Plan B striker. What was Borini thinking?

Lucas too, unless Gerrard gets injured, then he is the obvious replacement. The problem for Lucas is, unlike someone like Allen or Can, he can only really play in one position. It's better to have versatile players on the bench.

Suso needs games. He won't get much with Coutinho, Lallana, Sterling and Markovic all ahead of him in the pecking order in his position. We might still need to find a way to loan him somewhere.

Suso would be better off going to the Championship than staying here. I wonder if we're just going to let him walk away? I'm not his biggest fan but that would be crazy, he has to be worth £5m or so.

It is all very good saying we have a deep squad but what makes me nervous is that not a single one of our players can be termed world class - at least at club level. We sold suarez for 75M yet we did not spend big on anyone and don't tell me the price we paid for Lallana, and Markovic was big - because by todays standard it is high end but not world class high. I think we should have bought a big name into our club now the more I think about it the more I think we should have gone for a big name super fucking star. Yes I am kind of pissed that ManU managed to get DiMaria, and Falcao - two big MASSIVE muther fucker names in world football and yet here we are in the CL with a big squad not knowing how well all these new buys will play. Fucking hell - why bother holding out for 75M for Suarez when the replacement we went for was £16M and even before that we were worried about spending £20M on fucking Boney. We better win the league or something this season and it better not be the Capital Cup or whatever it is called now.

I hate the fact that Markovic comes on and has a few nice touches and people say just that. I remember we got the same out Aquilani - nice touches then injured and then fuck all. Don't get me wrong - I want to be proven wrong big time but I worry that that big bench is not going to be good enough.

Living up to your username as per.

I guess if we had paid 50m for Balotelli you would have been happy.
Names, World Class, Big money etc etc etc, blah blah blah.
Id prefer 11 nobodies who WIN every fucking week.

Everytime he's had an interview, he talks about wanting to extend, and the club wanting to extend. So I'm not sure what's going on here - half of me thinks maybe he'll extend and then go on loan in January. The other half of me thinks Konoplyanka will sign a pre-contract in January with us and Suso signs a pre-contract with Valencia or something.

All fit, normal matchday squad of 18:
GK - Mignolet, Jones
FB - Manquillo, Moreno, Flanagan
CB - Lovren, Skrtel, Sakho
CM - Gerrard, Henderson, Allen, Lallana, [ Can ]*
AM - Sterling, Coutinho, [ Markovic ]*
FW - Sturridge, Balotelli, Lambert

Rotating into matchday squad when someone's injured / suspended:
GK - Ward
CB - Toure
FB - Johnson, Enrique
CM - Lucas, [ Can ]*
AM - [ Markovic ]*, Suso
FW - Borini

* [ ] - Choose one; the other goes into the rotation squad

When you look at things this way, all the guys outside the top 18 will get a chance to sit on the bench over the course of the season due to injuries, suspensions and rest. In Borini's case, that assumes we stick to playing two forwards and Rodgers doesn't use Sterling as a stand-in striker.

There may not be many chances to actually play - that depends on things happening on game day - but they'll certainly get a shot at making the matchday squad. Against Spurs, for example, Enrique, Toure and [ Can / Markovic ] made the squad because Skrtel, Lallana and Flanagan were all unavailable.

You would probably expect around 2-5 of those players to be injured at any given time, so the depth is even better.

It really bugs me that the media (sorry @Piedro) keep mentioning the strength of City and Chelsea's squad, and then lump us, Arsenal and United together. Sure our squad isn't as strong as City and Chelsea, but our squad is much deeper and well balanced than both United and Arsenal. By all means compare the ability of first elevens and individual players of Liverpool, Arsenal and United, but don't imply our squad is lacking like theirs, it isn't, we have a fantastic squad.

It's almost as if journalists simply fill empty space with ill-thought out, trite rubbish.

I agree.

However I find it extremely hard to argue that we are not below City & Chelsea in terms of challenging of the league.

Whilst there's arguments about the balance of the squads, the fact remains that logic tells us it will be between ourselves, arse & Utd for 3rd & 4th place, & the City & Chelsea squads are obviously stronger than all 3 of ours are.

Definitely, I completely agree with that, my argument though is that the strength of our squad should be mentioned in comparison to Arsenal and United, not lumped in as the same, it's much more balanced, and it's the main reason I think we'll end up third, Arsenal (midfield) and United (midfield and defence) will pay for that weakness over the season.

no worries, we would just overachieve again this season. simples
