Haven't seen this kid play but the tag "new Walcott" doesn't exactly fills me with confidence
I was kinda thinking that as well.
If Arsenal were to sell Walcott in the summer, what do people think he'd be worth?
Exactly. I wouldn't pay more than about 8 mil to be honest. He's injury prone and hasn't exactly been a great success.
I also think it's amusing that people are clamouring over the next Walcott, Bale, Ramsey, Lennon, Johnson when none of them (bar Bale who I also think needs to prove that he can sustain his form) have set the world on fire.
I wouldn't pay 10 million for any of them today (bar Bale again). Forget spending 10 million on their second comings.
So if we're spending 10 million on this Chamberlain, he better be fucking good. If not, I'd much rather spend 5 million more on someone like Costa, Turan, Hazard, Elia etc. i.e. someone who's already an established regular and may just be the next Messi/Ronaldo.
on the contrary, i'd say every one of them has been very impressive and well worth the money paid. walcott i'd agree has been slightly disappointing, but he's still shown plenty of potential and a lot of the disappointment has been down to injuries. still looks a relative bargain for what arsenal paid, though.
if i was to judge the wisdom of signing this chamberlain lad purely on the success of similar previous transfers then i'd be absolutely all for it.

Here are their stats since they’ve made the jump to the Premiership
Ramsey – 49 appearances, 5 goals, 6 assists (3 seasons)
Walcott – 149 appearances, 24 goals, 21 assists (5 seasons)
Bale – 95 appearances, 16 goals, 16 assists (4 seasons)
Lennon – 209 appearances, 19 goals, 49 assists (6 seasons)
Johnson – 43 appearances, 6 goals, 8 assists (2 seasons)
Bear in mind they’re all wingers/attacking midfielders. Now that’s definitely better than what we’ve got. But I’d argue that they’re about the level of a N’Zogbia or a Valencia. None of them have shown (and they’ve all spent a considerable amount of time in the Premiership now) that they can reach the level of Ronaldo, Robben, Pires, Ljungberg, Malouda i.e. the pre-eminent wingers in the Premiership – who can/could chip in with about 10 goals and 10 assists per season. I’d value them thus at 10-12 million at best. Today. Considering they were all bought for 6 million or less, that’s decent value I suppose. But if we’re spending 10 million on Chamberlain today when his potential (assuming so) is that of a Walcott/Bale/Lennon/Ramsey, I’d say no thanks.
So unless Chamberlain is available for 5 million or so, I’d stick to buying the Shelveys, the Sterlings, and the Hammills for I’m sure they can reach the level of a Walcott/Bale/Lennon/Ramsey.

christ, spare me the stats ffs.
simple question, for the money paid, which of bale, walcott, johnson, lennon and ramsey look like anything other than good signings?
none would be my answer. which look like absolutely excellent signings?
bale, ramsey and lennon would be my answer.
i really think your argument's dead in the water.
also, i just noticed that you think those guys are all in the £10-12m bracket - surely you jest? all of them would go for more than that, and bale probably 3 times that.
