Robertsgone?

I don't see this as a particularly snaky move from Robbo/Tyler.

If course agents want the best for their clients and if course the selling club wants a low price. It's up to the club to make their stance clear. Unless there's a suggestion he's going to kick up a fuss...

Anyway, I'd rather we keep him for a year then let him go on a free. Summer of 26 and all that.

Pretty sure I've told this story but Robbo was a committee signing. Jurgen didn't object, but he wasn't pushing for it. He'd wanted Benjamin Mendy (shudders) who'd gone to City, Alex Sandro (who I think was either injured or over-priced) or even Ben Chilwell (who was still at Leicester and had barely played). The data team suggested Robbo, and let's not forget even after we signed him Klopp was still picking Alberto Moreno ahead of him. But Robbo was not to be denied.
We had money left in the budget and Klopp agreed to sign him, but he expected Robbo to just be back-up to Moreno with a view to upgrading further down the line.

A player who perfectly captures the Klopp- Edwards era. Send Kevin Stewart the other way for 6-7 million and get Robertson for 8 million. A monster of a signing and an all-time great transaction. Pace, hardwork, aggression, class, mischief, and an unparalleled attitude.

Although it would be sad to see Robertson leave, it does make perfect sense, as long as we definitely get the new left back in.

If he's not gonna be first choice and has the opportunity to go to Spain and be first choice there for a few years then I don't blame him at all.

Tsimikas has always been good enough as back up, appears happy enough with that and is slightly younger.

Mind you, we shouldn't be letting Robertson go for free. From players' points of view, they always very much separate the business/contract side of things from the playing side of things so the club should be doing the same. It doesn't matter how nice a guy they are or how long they've been here.

Yeah that's been conveyed

Don’t worry mate… his family line was Scottish at some point - if the Mexicans ever find out he was a proddie shipped over from Scotland during the plantation, they’ll be calling him Scottish as quickly as you could say “Yer Tayto’s shite”.

Incidentally - my surname also has Scottish Highland origins and I’m led to believe moved to Ireland during the plantation.

When I was growing up and idolising Kenny Dalglish in the late 70’s early 80’s I hoped this fact would qualify me to play for Scotland.

Turns out I was really shite at football anyway.

Scottish heritage is Irish anyway so it all comes back to Ireland.

A good fit for Scotland then.

We should get every client that Tyler has out of the club.

Lowland Scotland and Ireland share heritage.

Highland Scotland doesn't

And very far north is more viking.

But sure. Give a broadbrush statement.

(BTW im saying this as someone with irish-scots name and blood)
Indeed but the first Scottish settlers were Irish no?

I very much doubt they are demanding a free transfer, it's nonsensical, wouldn't be entertained, nor does it benefit any party leaking that info. If Athleti want him they can stump up an acceptable fee. If they don't want to then Robertson should take that to man they didn't value him all that highly. Eitherway, Robertson isn't going to kick up a stink. He's given us lots over the years, but we were also the top club that took a punt on him at a time when even mid-table clubs were uninterested in him. We've given him the platform, and tactical set up, to cement himself as one of the best left backs in the game. The bottom line is there a huge amount of respect between the player and the club, so I'm not overly bothered who his agent is.

I do think he might be pissed the fans aren’t clamouring for a new contract. He was quoted a few weeks ago saying he hoped the fans were as vocal about him getting a new contract as they were for Salah and Virgil.

Worth bearing in mind that Atletico paid 20m for a 29 year old Trippier 6 years ago (so roughly 26-28m in today’s terms).

They’re surely offering 10-20m for Robbo unless there’s other factors at play here (the sliver of a chance of an Alvarez deal somewhere)?

I’m just about ok with him going at this stage in his career. He’s been an incredible player for us but his performances have declined sharply in the last year or so. We’re hardly going to offer him another mega contract next season and if he’s really motivated to go to Atletico (the right kind of cunty environment for a wind up merchant) then we hold firm on a good fee and wish him all the best.

Question is, do we continue to rely on Tsimikas as back up to John Arne Kerkez?

Fair enough. I must have misinterpreted what I learnt in history.
Funny that - what I was taught in history was that the English spent 800 years civilising, nurturing and making life infinitely better for our Irish cousins only for them to be most ungrateful for all the support offered with such a friendly hand.

Isn't it amazing how the version of history you learn in school depends on who is teaching it ..

It's much more likely to be the other way around though where the first people in Ireland came from is unclear and when they first arrived is being pushed back in time.

I’d happily take a nominal fee and no contribution towards his wages. He is another who has stayed a year later than he should have. He had a horror spell and only regained some inkling of form towards the end of the season.

Love the guy and everything he’s done for us. Never gave less than 100%. He can hold his head high, go out a legend and get a few years covered in factor 50.

Apart from Robbo being Robbo, the number of potential sales all at once is a concern. Yes, I guess he was no longer 1st choice but we seem ready for a big turn over.
