Quote of the day!

Best Diego moment:

Taking the ball from designated penalty-taker Patrick Helmes, misses and ultimately get's McLaren fired.

I really wanted him when he was at Bremen... it's not really worked out for him since he moved though. Good signing if we could get him to knuckle down and sort himself out though.

Soccernet is reporting we are trying to sign Vargas from Fiorentina.

Totally worth every single penny in the 20M that he commands.

Coentrao has nothing on him!!!

Would you want him at LB or LW?

He's 27, wouldn't it be better to get someone who's around 24-25?
Sure we'll get at least 5 years out of him if it works out but is it worth the cash?

BERLIN — Brazil midfielder Diego is unlikely to play for VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga again having stormed out on his team before their crucial relegation battle, according to media reports on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old is currently on holiday, but is likely to find himself out in the cold should he return for training on June 23 with Wolves coach Felix Magath far from happy with the star player's behaviour.

According to a report in German daily Bild, Magath met with Wolfsburg chairman of the board Dr Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz on Monday night to discuss the future of their bad-boy star, who is under contract until 2014.

Wolfsburg are reported to either want to transfer the midfielder for at least 10 million euros or banish him to the club's second team to play fourth division football.

"If a club wants to sign Diego, they need to get in touch with us," Magath told Bild with the Brazilian set to be hit with a hefty fine.

But Magath has insisted nothing concrete will be decided until the club speaks to the player.

"There is no new state of affair," said Magath on Wednesday.

"No decision has been taken yet - neither one way or the other and there is plenty of time until pre-season to have a conversation with Diego."

Last Saturday, Diego stormed out of the pre-match team meeting after being told by Magath he had been left out of the starting line-up for their 3-1 win at Hoffenheim, which meant Wolfsburg stay in the Bundesliga.

He then refused to travel with the team to the stadium, but reported for training on Sunday morning.

So far, no club has shown an interest in signing him, but as he has an Italian passport, he would be eligible to play for Wolfsburg's second team, as only EU citizens can play for reserve teams in Germany.

Wolfsburg paid 15 million euros to Juventus for the Brazilian last August and the ex-Werder Bremen star has largely disappointed on his return to the Bundesliga and picked up seven yellow cards in 30 league games last season.

Yeah me too. Could be very much what FSG want too - a player who's value isn't even near to what it was and potentially could be again if he sorts himself out.

We should have asked for Diego when we loaned Aqualani to Juve. I've said this time and time again.

His career stagnated a bit at Juve but he would be an exciting player for us if he could return to his glory days at Bremen.
Love the Vargas links btw. He's a beast. Good point from Keni about the LW/LB debate. We don't want another Dossena on our hands who prefers to play as a wing back.

Roopy, give us the low down on how Vargas finished this season.

Haha, classic Oncy.

If the price is right then sure, he's worth a go.

But he has to come pretty cheap. He's failed at two clubs now and his attitude stinks.

Good player, but there is a reason he gets flogged from every team he's been at.
Was excellent for Porto and Werder, but horrible for Juve and Wolfsburg.

I like him as a player, but these stories about storming out before games because he isnt starting etc is not good though. Could have a very bad influence in the dressing room.
Still he's only 26, but is one of those players that has been around for ages.

sounds like a right cunt

Diego will get fucked up at Liverpool for throwing such tantrums.

Decent player but I'd rather spend that money on McCarthy from Wigan.

Reds try for Altintop
Turkish star could have English option
By Graeme Bailey

The midfielder's departure from Bayern Munich has already been confirmed and he will be leaving on a Bosman transfer.

He has held talks with Real Madrid already and is widely expected to join the Spanish giants, becoming their second Turkish import of the summer following on from Borussia Dortmund's Nuri Sahin.

But it is understood that Liverpool have made an approach to try and convince Altintop he would be better served continuing his career with a move to England.

Altintop has long been linked with the Premier League and, at 28, is far from past his best although he was only able to start eight league games this season.

Altintop is hugely versatile and can play anywhere across the midfield, which is of obvious appeal to any suitors.

It now remains to be seen whether Altintop will be able to reject the overtures of Real to move elsewhere.

False as he's just signed with Real Madrid (a 4 year contract).

Isn't this their 3rd signing already?
