Newcastle demand Liverpool youngster in exchange for Enrique
Published on April 16, 2011 by Rob Morris

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has told Liverpool he wants Jay Spearing in exchange for in-demand full-back Jose Enrique.

The People claim that the Spaniard is keen on a move to AC Milan, however, the Magpies have set their sights on 22-year-old Reds midfielder Spearing and believe a deal can be struck that would suit both parties.

Spearing has become increasingly prominent in Kenny Dalglish’s side this season after a succession of injuries to Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard.

In a heartbeat.

I'm preferring the off field football related gossip lately.

The family man who was having an affair with Imogen Thomas ? Anthony Stokes parents being arrested as part of an investigation into organised gangs etc etc

I'd prefer we just give them 7M & Spearing and don't ask for Enrique in return.

Steven Defour could reportedly move to Liverpool in the summer after his representatives held talks with the Merseyside club.

The 23-year-old Standard Liege captain has been frequently linked with a move away from Belgium over the past season or two, with Manchester United one of his reported suitors.

Now, according to Goal.com, Defour’s agent Paul Stefani has held talks with Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli over a proposed £10 million transfer to Anfield.

Stefani has also had discussions with Benfica, it has been claimed, but Defour has been tipped to flourish at Liverpool, should the Belgium international seal a switch to Anfield.

"Liverpool are now a different club to last year," a source told Goal.com UK. "Defour could really thrive and achieve his goals at Liverpool - and he is the kind of player they want to sign now."

Defour or Martinez please.

Oh and I don't care for Enrique. I've heard he has improved but I want Contraeo or Vargas, yeah i'm greedy like that.

Now this I like!!

If he has a straight choice between us & the Mancs I hold out little hope of him being at Anfield next season.

Depends how much money we're offering. He might also fancy the prospect of being a bigger fish in our pond than he would be in theirs. One or two players (Charlie Nicholas and Lou Macari come to mind) turned us down for that reason during our glory days.

Good player, but don't we need a ball winning midfielder more than we need Defour?

Comolli was at the Lyon - PSG game last night.

Probably watching Sakho. Cissokho was excellent so hopefully he's on the list aswell.

We had the best example in world football of that type of player in Mascher. Now that he's gone, we're more or less driven to look for more all-round players who can do their bit of the tough stuff but have other skills and responsibilities too. From what I've seen of him (admittedly only clips) I think Defour would fit the bill.

I'm not to sure about his defensive skills to be honest, and I'd say he's a very similar player to Meireles in that department.

I'd rather go for Moussa Sissoko

We do need a ball winning midfielder but I think a playmaker in the Alonso or Scholes mould is also imperative. Defour would fit the bill very nicely indeed.

Alonso's the comparison I had in mind. His tackling, though obv.not the main attribute he brought to the team, was underrated. IMO he'd have done less well for us had that not been the case, because he wouldn't have had the same amount of time on the ball.

It's Ryan Giggs who's nobbing that bird off the tele.

[/quote]The defensive job Alonso did vs Spurs was phenomenal.

What I was thinking on the way home yesterday was... We haven't beaten Arse away for 10 years, and yet we still squeezed a draw under similar circumstances as all the other ones we've managed there (they had plenty of the ball, we had a couple of decent chances) with Spearing and Lucas instead of Alonso and Masch. Yesterday we didn't even have a left side, at all... I think Dalglish is a fucking genius. I don't know where I'm going with this.

I think he's more of a playmaker than Meireles. Meireles is a fine footballer, he is however limited in that he's more of a jack of all trades. He's not really a specialist playmaker who can control a game or a box to box player who'll score 10-15 goals a season. I'd prefer two out and out specialists in central midfield. A holding DM and a controlling playmaker. I think Defour would fill that second slot quite competently.

I think the player with this gagging order about the affair is Steven Gerrard

Uh? Gerrard and his wife haven't split up.

I'm on my phone Wiz, someone else can post a link. There's basically a story in the tabloids over here about a reality tv personality having a six month long affair with a footballer who now has a gagging order so cannot be named.

Everyone is saying its Giggs ... but I am not surprised by footy players doing it ...

its that used to be pretty and natural but has now gone all silicon boobs Imogen Thomas from Big Brother

The tabloids are dying to say who it is someone will let it out.

As she lives in London I will be surprised if its a north west based player unless he is welsh like Giggs
