Forget Diego.

He's a talented player, but he is not cut out out to playing for the biggest clubs in Europe.

He had his chance at Juve and showed glimpses, but nothing to warrant the constant adulation that goes his way.

He had a chance at the last Copa America to really prove he can be amongst the best.

Brazil had some big names out, and he was drafted into the starting line up for Brazil. In the opening game of the Copa he played an absolute shocker beyond belief, and was reduced to a bench role from then on ... whereas players like Dani Alves showed they can make the step up.

He reminds me of other players like Quaresma, who somehow have managed to convince people they are top class players no matter how shit they continue to perform, when in reality they are footballing mercenaries.

Liverpool FC: Dalglish reveals 'distinct possibility' of Aquilani stay
by Richard Buxton. Published Fri 20 May 2011 11:25, Last updated: 2011-05-20

Kenny Dalglish has revealed that there is a 'distinct possibility' that Alberto Aquilani could remain at Liverpool next season.

Juventus have yet to take the Reds up on an offer for Aquilani following the conclusion of a successful season-long loan with other Serie A clubs reportedly interested in his services.

But Dalglish has admitted that the former Roma playmaker could have a future at Anfield, where he failed to live up to expectations in an injury-plagued first season.

He said: "There's a distinct possibility he could be back here.

"He's a quality player. He got off to a bad start here with his injuries and never really got going after missing pre-season.

"He went out on loan and has done very well over there.

"If he was to come back here, for me that would be like a new face coming in. I don't know of any deadline, I wasn't privy to the conversations that were had."

With Daniel Ayala and Dani Pacheco joining Aquilani on the list of players returning to the club from loan spells, Dalglish admits that Liverpool have yet to decide on their respective futures.

"We've got to assess what we need, and that includes the players who have been out on loan," he added.

"They'll assess where they've been and the other clubs will assess them.

"Alberto is the highest profile but we've got decisions to make on those players.

"We've not had time to sit down and discuss the players who have been out on loan apart from Alberto."

Reds try for Altintop
Turkish star could have English option
By Graeme Bailey

The midfielder's departure from Bayern Munich has already been confirmed and he will be leaving on a Bosman transfer.

He has held talks with Real Madrid already and is widely expected to join the Spanish giants, becoming their second Turkish import of the summer following on from Borussia Dortmund's Nuri Sahin.

But it is understood that Liverpool have made an approach to try and convince Altintop he would be better served continuing his career with a move to England.

Altintop has long been linked with the Premier League and, at 28, is far from past his best although he was only able to start eight league games this season.

Altintop is hugely versatile and can play anywhere across the midfield, which is of obvious appeal to any suitors.

It now remains to be seen whether Altintop will be able to reject the overtures of Real to move elsewhere.
False as he's just signed with Real Madrid (a 4 year contract).

Isn't this their 3rd signing already?
2nd isn't it? Sahin being the 1st. But its Mourinho's 4th Bundesliga signing since taking over.

If we lose Aquilani and gain Diego for similar prices then basically we'll have done a swap for 2 players who had opposite influences at the same club with us getting the lesser one.....this saddens me! But I still maintain that Kenny would get the best out of both! A fully fit Aqua back in that case please!

The Spurs manager also revealed that he watched Lille's highly rated forward Eden Hazard this week, while Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Adebayor and Pablo Osvaldo have all been mentioned as possible targets to spearhead the attempt to get back into the top four.

His list includes goalkeepers Maarten Stekelenburg, Ben Foster and Shay Given, who have all been considered as replacements for the error-prone Heurelho Gomes. Redknapp said: ' I'm sure people are going to be interested in Scott.I know a couple of other clubs are interested, big clubs, but we'll wait and see.

'Which clubs? Arsenal and Liverpool.
I think they're big clubs in for him, so it will be hard.'

If Redknapp had his way, he'd have brought in 20 players in Jan and another 40 players in the summer.
How many players does he want to be linked to? Strange man.

LIVERPOOL boss Kenny Dalglish is targeting three players to fill his midfield for next season.

Dalglish has set his sights on Brazil international Diego, who plays for German club Wolfsburg.

The 26-year-old playmaker is available for around £15million, but the Reds face competition from Chelsea.

Liverpool are also interested in hot Wigan prospect James McCarthy.

Dalglish sent assistant Sammy Lee to watch the 20-year-old against Everton three weeks ago, and the report back was glowing.

Chelsea also fancy the young Scotland international, rated at around £8m, but Liverpool hope to steal a march on the Londoners by tying up a deal quickly.

The Merseysiders also have their eye on Writers’ Footballer of the Year Scott Parker, but seem destined to lose out to Tottenham in the race to sign the West Ham vice-captain.

The England ace, 30, commands a £10m fee and wages of £80,000 a week.

71% chance of an exciting summer.

What about a summer of any sort?

It feels like it's fucking October here, only without the grim realisation we've already blown the chance of winning the league.

Can't help you there Jonfive.

I'm only good for Australian summers, or I could tell you it's about 10 degrees in Denver right now where I'm fucking stuck.

I can also testify to the fact that it has been pishing for most of the time I have been here in New Hampshire. Luckily, there is fuck all to do outside anyway.
