Yes, the season we got to a Champions League final. Seems that Summer's optimism was really misplaced.

I don't think everyone was creaming themselves over Pennant and thinking he was the missing link, most people were disappointed we didn't get Alves, so that's some selective back patting right there.

Anyway, wasn't that the Summer we signed a freescoring Dutch Forward? I seem to remember the posters you're talking about championing his arrival.

That was the year after I think, it was that superb FA Cup final in 2006 if my memory serves me right?

Need to get myself an agent so he can get on the phone to DC to express my willingness to move, provided I'm given sufficient bench time - my knees won't handle 90 minutes a week.

Nah mate, the CL final was the 2006/2007 season (which we'd signed Kuyt and Pennant for), the FA Cup final was the 2005/2006 season.

Yeh, I misunderstood what people meant there. I thought people were saying we'd bought Kuyt the summer after the Champions league final, despite the fact he scored in it!

Just seen the team sheets for the FA Cup and CL Finals from those two seasons, it's amazing how much our side has changed in 5 years and how many comings and goings there have been.
 
Amazing how many good players have left to be replaced by not so good players, our midfield especially.

If this is true, while it's good that a high profile player seems willing to make that particular choice, I have to admit to mixed feelings about the signing itself. Young has the ability but I'm not convinced he has the stickability.

Where did you read this? I can't find it on the BBC. I don't think there is a better way for him to start his career than to turn down United for us.

Although lets hope he doesn't go the way of the last pacey, goal scoring, left winger, who had been tearing up the premiership and then turned down United for us.

In all honesty, if regular football is what you want, you only have to look at the Man Utd options of Nani, Valencia, and Giggs and then look at ours and it's a foregone conclusion really.
 
I like Ashley Young but worry he has reached his full potential and if that is good enough to improve us significantly. He's obviously an improvement. Maybe I just been spoiled by the impact of Suarez. I want another Suarez instead.
