STEWART DOWNING will wait to see if Liverpool make a mega-bid for him before signing a new Villa deal.

Downing wants to be kept informed of any interest from Merseyside
, despite entering contract talks with Villa.

The Midlanders resisted Liverpool's advances in January but Anfield boss Kenny Dalglish looks set to test them again with a £12million offer.

And although Downing is happy to stay at Villa Park, he will wait before committing himself.

But a switch to Anfield will be tempting for the 26-year-old England winger.

I don't think so. I like him, great feet, goes past players, good crosser and draws defenders to him like bees to honey. He'd make a lot of space for Carroll & Suarez.

As long as he's not a regular starter, downing's fine with me.

12M for someone who sits on the bench then, and that's "fine with [you]"?

Aye, right.

That said, I couldn't give a shit about how much players cost. I'm not the LFC accountant. If Kenny wants him and they can afford it, fine.

Modo, you allowed an opinion but you're dead wrong. Adam Johnson is no mug as you suggest.

More than a confused Swede I see!

There are two ways to go about it IMO. You can settle for the likes of Young, Downing, Lennon and A. Johnson.
Or you can try signing exciting players like Hazard, Sanchez, Mata and Navas.
Personally I'd like one from the 2nd group.

I was just about to put the same thing. There are better wingers out there than one Stewart Downing..

Johnson and Young - Premiership proven and we know they'll do the job - Circa £15m

Hazard and Mata - Premiership Unproven, we don't know they'll do the job - Circa £25m

Do we though? Neither one is a model of consistency.

Of the two I'd sooner take a punt on Johnson because (a) he's more of a genuine winger than Young, who drifts inside a lot, and (b) because he's that bit younger, so may be easier to train out of his inconsistency. I'll support Young if we get him, but I hope we don't.

Really?!

I'm unsure on Mata... he's had a good couple of years, but hasn't set the world alight for me. Haven't seen enough of Hazard to form an opinion.

I'll support anyone who joins even fucking Barton but it's not about that. For me it's about getting the best available players.
Fuck it I'll say it, if I could chose to sign any winger in the world right now I'd sign Arjen Robben.
I'm in love with that ugly bald-headed fucker.

That still doesn't make him shite. He's young and improving and can change games ..... I wouldn't say no to him. Of course those others are highly prized and desirable ..... and bloody expensive.

I just find it bizarre that so many people are happy to climb onboard the exotic-continental bandwagon rather than Youngs for example.

I'd much prefer we paid 50% less and Got Young than Mata or Hazard.

Not that I disagree with you but ......

Research by a leading business analyst has shown that the more clubs spend on players and their wages, the more points they win over the season.
This proves that the amount of money clubs have, not the expertise of their managers and coaches, is the key to successful campaigns.
It also shows why smaller clubs looking to make the leap from the lower divisions to the Championship and Premier League often slip back down after a season or two.
Professor Stefan Szymanski of the Cass Business School in London looked at the amount of points earned by clubs in relation to expenditure since the Premier League was formed in 1991.
He found that the teams spending the most on players earned the most points. His research also showed that the cost of winning a game in the Premier League is £7.2million, more than 200 per cent up on the £348,000 needed 20 years ago.

Hope Kenny proves him wrong.

The reason I named Hazard, Sanchez, Mata and Navas is because I believe they'd work extremely well with Suarez and Kuyt.
Adam Johnson and Lennon just runs at players, I'm not particularly impressed with their overall game. I'd call them both headless chickens but I think that's too strong.

Downing is a poor mans Beckham.

Tbf Young is the best of the bunch. I'm just afraid that he isn't consistent enough. Also paying over £20 Million for a player with a year left just isn't worth it.

johnsons really inconsistent, he's fuckin boss when he's on form though, but yeah, city wont sell any half decent players to anyone in the prem the mad fuckers

So today the rumours are Neymar to Chelsea is on. Sanchez and Mata to Man City. But Young perfers Man Utd, leaving us with.... Downing.
