Is Tottenham such a bad opportunity? Their main problem has just been appointing bad or unsuitable managers. I don't think there's anything fundamentally broken there. It's not a basket case like Chelsea. They're well capable of a top 5 finish if they get the right guy in.

I can't say I share the idea this Spurs squad are top 5 material.

Additionally financially they're tight at best of times, but since the stadium it's even worse. There's reports there is very little money to spend this summer and both Jose and Conte were crystal clear in that there's a losing doesn't matter culture throughout the club. It's a decent enough gig for someone like McKenna, or a manager with a point to prove, but for Iraola, who is on a pathway to a proper big club, IMHO, then would be a wild risk and a fast way to stall or even destroy any established credibility, IMHO.

I don't disagree that they're not a bad landing spot for most managers, but they're absolutely nowhere near being a top 5 team for me... Who in the top 5 are they going to replace? They should be in the top half, maybe, but that's about it.

Fair, and this year they're 16th... Who do you think that they'll be better than, next year? That's a once decent team that's now thorough broken, and it's not changing back quickly.

Well tbf I didn't actually say that I think they'll finish 5th next year. What I meant but didn't make explicit is that within a reasonable time frame they're easily capable of finishing 5th. But if I was pushed then yes I ALSO think it's entirely possible for them to finish 5th next year just like they did last year.

You ask who they might replace in a year and one month without seeming to realise that the top 5 is in flux OVER THE NEXT MONTH, let alone over the next 13 months. There is no established top 5 to break into! Beyond the top 3 and bottom 3 the league is vey competitive and fluid.

But to spell it out: I could see Spurs finishing above any of Villa, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Forest.

Well, fair enough. Not for me.

I don't see them making up 10+ places in such a competitive league in just one season, but we shall see.... I understand that the top 5 is very fluid as we speak, but Spurs are just too flippin' woeful for me to think that they're gonna approach any of the teams that you mention, never mind replace them.

Spurs have some good young players, wouldn't mind Archie Gray or Bergvall in our squad. It's a bit toxic at that club though and any top or aspiring manager would be mad to go there. That's not my opinion it's what the Spurs fans were saying before the game on Sunday
