Mamadou Sakho has dropped out of the France squad as the Liverpool defender anxiously awaits to learn the severity of his knee injury.
The 25-year-old centre-back will undergo a scan on Monday afternoon after he limped out of Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Sakho left Anfield on crutches with his right knee in a brace amid fears that he has damaged his anterior cruciate ligament.
Team-mates Danny Ings and Joe Gomez have already suffered ACL tears this season and if Sakho has made it an unwanted hat-trick for Liverpool then his season could be over.

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender has been in fine form and losing him for an extended period would be a massive blow to new boss Jurgen Klopp.
Sakho has already been ruled out of France’s international matches against Germany and England. His place in Didier Deschamps’ squad has been taken by Saint-Etienne’s Loic Perrin.

This is fucking poo. I remember when ACL meant that massive ship on the docks by ours. Now it just means doom.
I think it would mean that buying a centre half in January would now be an imperative.

Or bringing back Ilori? Hopefully we'll have Sakho back soon, and Lovren, fingers crossed, will improve, so we don't want to bring in an older CB for the short term, and we've got a few young ones on the books already whom Klopp can shape into the players who suit his sytem.

No idea why he played on. I know Sakho seems himself as a solider and wanted to run it off but there is no need to aggravate an injury.

Ilori isnt the answer though.
Its a shame Gomez is injured aswell.

We can only hope it isnt an ACL injury.
But with our luck he's done for the season

Because we didn't have anyone with properly functioning eyes and a brain sitting on the bench. Also the water carrier who came on rubbed his knee a little bit then didn't have a fucking clue what to do next.

Actually no we did. Lovren was about the only person who used his eyes and knew Sakho was fucked, but unfortunately he was told to sit down and put his coat back on.

I'm pretty sure something snapped. You could tell by the look of pain on his face. Then he went into shock, which if we had a doctor we would have realised, as a result of the shock his brain blocked out the previously excruciating pain. Our fucking water carrier asks him "does it hurt", "no", "oh good, on you go lad". Fuck me. Fuck me.

Ilori isnt the answer though.

Answer to what? If Sakho is out for a long while, presumably it's Skrtel and Lovren as first choice. So do you think Klopp will find a genuinely top class experienced CB in January? I don't. If not, then it's down to a younger player as back up. Do you think a really good prospect will come in this January? It's surely doubtful. And we already have Gomez earmarked for that role next season. In which case, for the season, I'd say we may as well use Ilori as back up. That's my answer. If it's not yours, what's your question?

His season will be over. Trying to carry on will have made it worse. Our medical team (?) should have been straight on.

I would break the bad news to Can and stick him at the back again. Or I'd break the good news to Gerrard and bring him back as a defender.

Neither of them are good enough even as temporary cover when played as centre halves.

We have to accept that we're getting fucked no matter what now. We'll concede more goals whether it is Lovren, Toure, Ilori or some other kid. At least Can and Gerrard add something positive in terms of passing and setting up attacking moves. Unless we make changes to improve the attack, we'll start sliding down the table thanks to our newly shittened defense.

As a young back up maybe he is, but can he be recalled? He hasnt featured yet for Villa and has been injured himself.

If we're going to recall someone why not Wisdom? He can probably do the same job as Ilori and can play right back aswell.

As for getting targets in the January transfer window I'm not sure if even Klopp yet knows what he needs.
But if Sakho is out for the season and one of our targets is available we might move early for him.
Maybe Subotic or Howedes are available.

Can's passing is shit and Gerrard can't hack it in the MLS nevermind here. We'll have to make do with Lovren or Toure when he's fit until January when we can either recall Illori (even though I doubt this is possible due to premier league rules) or get someone in on loan. It's not worth buying someone in January unless Klopp sees them as someone who could be in the team long term. Unfortunately we don't have any full backs who could cover at centre half as they are almost all shortarses who would be exposed in the air.

I think you need to think ahead. You don't want someone who'll fill the gap and then become the next Enrique, taking huge wages and long holidays. So if you're going for an experienced CB, then he'd better be genuinely worth it. Otherwise maybe we could sign someone on loan, or, as I said, settle for one of our young players. Sadly I think Wisdom's failed to realise his potential and just looks dazed these days. Ilori when fit is a classy prospect, so I'd get him back and develop him in situ.

The other solution we could choose is to get a centre half from the lower leagues. I don't know the lower leagues too well myself so this could well be me talking complete bollocks but whenever we play lower league teams the defenders seem to do particularly well against us. Maybe it's easier to be destructive than creative.
This would undoubtedly be a cheaper alternative to buying someone from a succesful club but as a temporary fix could work. Mybe from a club that promotes playing out from the back like MK Dons or from a scottish premier league club. These type of players tend to be a lot cheaper but aren't neccesarily poor quality.

Someone who can head a ball out of our penalty area would be a start

I suppose Dawson would come on loan - big Liverpool fan, he'd probably agree to serve as back up for a season if Hull would let him.

Hopefully Klopp has some insanly good German CB lined up that we know very little about.

It's now nine months - count 'em - since the club started its search for a new senior club doctor and we're still relying on an experienced stand-in we brought over from the Academy. It's positively Parry-esque, this sleepy behaviour. You'd think all these injury worries would add some urgency to the process, but apparently not.

It's easy to assume that all players in the lower leagues are hopeless but one thing they would be able to cope with is the physical aspect which to be fair is the one thing that foreign players can sometimes struggle with. It's not like our passing out from the back policy is reaping dividends at the moment anyway so why not get someone in who will clear the ball when it needs to be cleared rather than pass the ball out badly and getting us into even more trouble.

It is Parry-esque but that sort of things happens when Ayre is in charge. Our goalkeeping coach is another example. Not sorted out yet so we still have a joke trying to train our keepers.

That's not just bad news for Can. It's bad news for everyone. Although there is one positive: he's not in midfield.
