Guardian are reporting that Shaw is joining Manure for 30m and on 100,000 pounds a week - for an 18 yr old?

By all account he looks exceptional and the sum 30m is probably on the high end but not that far-fetched. However, the wages are disgusting and mental.

The Utd forums all reported this as done two weeks ago & the day after shaw followed Phil Neville in Twitter so it's a poorly kept secret at best.

All Utd's buys & wages this summer will be obscene cos agents know they're desperate.

If Utd spend massively as reported, how on earth are they going to meet ffp in a year or two?

Hahahaha. Have you seen their profits?!

Using FFP rules to the letter Utd should always be able to spend shitloads more than anyone else.

This does not bother me at all. Man U will get some good players, but as long as they pay full price and extortion salaries, I am perfectly happy because even for them there is a limit to what they can afford. And, I think Shaw will have less near-term impact at Man U that have lots of holes to fill than at Chelsea that have just a small few.

What bothers me is when they uncover cheap gems like Hernandez, who made a significant positive impact when he arrived.

Spurs did it this Summer, while we've thrived on continuity, so there's never a given where money is concerned.

Leave them to it.

Btw, to get an idea of how much money Utd actually make, the glazers have taken out 500m from their profits in the last few years.

It's certainly not 'done,' as Moyes was fuming that he was still negotiating the deal on Monday when he was sacked. But it looks likely. Pity, he's a fantastic prospect.

Good signing for them, if overpriced.

He's one of those ones who just looks like a Utd player, really. Kind of thick and oafish looking.

But it's not really long-term signings like this that would worry me. It'd be more ones like Reus, Kroos, Cavani etc. They need to make sure they get back in the CL next year with the big increase in revenues that's going to carry. If they don't get there soon and we stay there then I'm confident we can continue to outgun them regardless of what they spend on Shaw or perhaps Barkley, who'll only really come good a couple of years down the line.

Guardian reporting it the day after Moyes is sacked and the whole place is in turmoil.... Hmmm...
Doubt its "done". Chelsea will easily match that fee and he's a Chelsea fan.

For that fee and wages I'd stay away mind. Shame cause he's a great prospect,

the absence of CL football may incline them to focus on the likes of Barkley/Shaw - unsure what impact this will have on overall transfer market, but them being a finance superpower could distort the market just when we want go and spend a lot ourselves! Ideally we will be competing for different pools of talent, Manure seem to be going for overpriced but talented Brit youngsters and current world class players at peak with high wages. I think we will probably aim for the very talented youngsters in the 20-24 bracket on the continent who are on the verge of being great.

Very good prospect but he's not really going to improve them that much in that department. Plus he's done nothing to earn 100k a week that's just plain stupid.

At that price they can have him, unfortunately their record with £30m odd British youngsters us quite good, see Rooney and Rio.

He hasnt done enough to earn that IMO. I'm glad we've started incentive type wages.

Madness. 30M and 100K/week for an 18-year old fullback. Unless he is the new Roberto Carlos or Cafu (which he is not), this is not justified.

£30m & £100k a week for an 18 yr old Left Back is borderline insanity.

People say 18 year old as if it's a negative. Surely it's a major positive. The guy might well have 15 good seasons ahead of him.

£2m a season. As SL says, chances are it'll look good value in a few years - although I do think there are similar options out there that probably offer better value.

We should get in for Chambers before the price goes through the roof, Arsenal are sniffing already, tbh i haven't seen much of him but what i have seen he looks a good prospect, he was impressive in our game at St Marys, didn't seem fazed by Suarez at all, one bit sticks in the mind where Suarez was running at him 1 on 1 and he took it off him quite easily and ran off with it out from the back, looked very composed for a kid, just like Shaw does, the way he played on his England debut it looked liked any old game to him.

For me it's the wages not the fee. If he makes it 15 seasons with pay rises and inflation he'll be on a million a week.

It's not the fact he's 18 OR costing £30m.

It's that he's 18 AND costing £30m AND he's a LB.

60m on Cavani, 30m on Shaw, 35m on Fabregas. They're surely making a big splash to get to 5th place next season.

The story is re: Cavani that Ed Woodward wants to make a superstar signing. Brilliant for us, because that's the sound of a misguided transfer policy right there.

If it was David Moyes who convinced him, it shows a serious lack of desire to improve.
