Harold Wilson also stopped free school milk for secondary schools.
Thatcher just extended that to primary schools.
What did the Queen do that was so wonderful when all the dickheads were out waving flags last Jubilee weekend?Just saw the people in Scotland having a street party yesterday on the news
Half of them will be there to get on TV and half won't have a clue what Maggie did or didn't do. Dickhead exhibitionists.

I know of two parties being planned in Liverpool as we speak, not by exhibitionists but by parents of my friends, who endured the hardest periods of their lives thanks to her & most attending know exactly what did.
You seem to think a great number of people who hate her don't know why, in Liverpool this isn't the case, we were told first hand by our parents what she was responsible for. The same is true in many areas most effected I'm sure.
I'm waging a few people sat comfortably in their current lifestyles, haven't got a clue what it's like to live under the circumstances most of us are relating to. I swear some people in this thread have read a few articles and think it's just hysteria. It isn't, and despite being a kid growing up at the time, I can more than remember what a shitty time it was for people, for family and for friends. So I don't need idiots telling me that someone else closed more pits, or that her private secretary said she cried at the deaths of those in the Falklands (oh, it must be true then), or that she made people more self dependent so ergo she made the average person "more powerful" (the biggest lol-fest bullshit posted in this thread), or how determined a leader she was. Get a clue and FUCK OFF.
b..b..but this is the guy who said poor little maggie cried when people were killed in the Falklands. I'm confused - its almost as if I cant actually trust a single word that comes out of his vile mouth. But that cant be right for a Sir can it?

He was her private secretary. May be another one who said that, but they are all cut from the same stinking tory cloth
I bet there is some serious trouble at the funeral. No doubt some marches etc.
Yep, my parents were probably better off than most but still found things tough. God knows what it must have been like for others worse off.
And I was getting slagged off yesterday for actually listening to my parents opinions on someone who I was too young to remember. The nerve of it!

Idiots? Oh fuck off Mark.
I've never said she was all good, I've just picked a point where people have jumped on the "demonise everything she did" bandwagon. I pointed that out to you and you got all "well it must be true then", what the same way it can't be true because you don't want to believe it?
Just so I'm clear, I'm an idiot who should "fuck off and get a clue"? It must be true then eh? Cos you say so.
See what I did there?
I have every empathy with anyone who suffered under Thatcher's rule Peter, I personally didn't and neither did my family. Maybe that's because I'm from the south, but that's not my fault - not that you're saying it is. I'm thankful for my "more" privileged background but I'm not going to be ashamed of it.
The South was booming during the 80s though Jon it was like Beirut up here la. As I said in my initial post in this thread your opinion of Thatcher will likely depend on how comfortable your life was at the time. Up here life was fucking shite. There's nothing to be ashamed for though - you didn't create the divide - she did. It still exists to this day
Clearly under any leader worth their salt there will be winners and losers from changes they make. Such is life. If you're saying that your parents or other people you know were among the losers and therefore you hate her then that's one thing, but if you're saying it automatically makes those changes wicked or just bad without having to know anything about the wider context, well that's another thing altogether, isn't it?
Mate, I get it. I honestly do. I was coming up to Liverpool throughout the mid to late 80's and was shocked at how run down it and some of the other northern towns were, compared to my cosy existence.
I'm just fucked off that some (not all) have used the death of Thatcher to have a pop at some by being more than a bit tabloid about it. Fucked off but not surprised.
I should hav kept my mouth shut from the beginning! Ah well can't change what's done, can only look to the future.
Pete, I think I actually said earlier, I don't know enough about it. I'll admit that. So in this case I'll stick with what my parents tell me as they actually lived through it all and experienced it first hand. They know how tough it was up here.
And for that you called me a child.
But anyway, she's had enough of my time over the past 2 days, she can fuck off now. Im out.
Look, I don't like insulting people even though I do it all the time, so sorry for that. IMO, as I said, it's fairly reasonable to hate her if you suffered directly, but people should be honest that that's the limit of their understanding, as you have. Thing is most don't.

You don't think entire regions of the UK still suffer the aftermath of her?
Out of curiosity mark when you consider the shit we were in during the 70s, strikes everywhere, tax at ridiculously high amounts, the world thinking we are finished as a country . What do you think should have been done differently by the prime minister who came in when Thatcher did. Do you not agree that if it wasn't her someone else had to do it
Do you not think anything she did was necessary and right for the country in the longer term?
