She's dead

Eating healthier can of course be as cheap or cheaper than eaten processed or frozen meals. I don't see why this has even turned into a debate, let alone an argument.

Cooking healther requires more knowledge, but not more pence. And the fact that everyone pretty much has access to the internet draws me to the conclusion that people have no real excuse.

You can't blame the state for people getting fat and contracting diabetes. It's their own fault.
TBF, most of the info on eating healthy for cheap comes from TV shows involving Jamie Oliver, and who the fuck wants to watch him.

The processed foods from the supermarket are so expensive the chains used horse meat to maximize profits.
Fucking geniuses.

I am sure the walk will do them good . Improve the health probably .

Speaking of walks. I was reading about Corby last night. Remember some poster I now ignore on here saying he agreed that if industries failed then whole communities should up and go where the rest of the work was well Corby is a prime example of that. Loads of Scots got up and moved to Corby to work in the steel industry there. I read a story about some guy who walked from Lanarkshire to Corby for work. The problem was then Thatcher killed off the steel industry too and now Corby is a fucking ghost town with people more likely to commit suicide there than anywhere else in the country. I drove through there about a decade ago and had to stop for petrol it was an unfortunately grim place. She did so much for Britain though

By the way, I should say to Sunny (if he can see this) that most of the time I've got no problem with him at all, so hopefully this embarrassing outburst of his is just a one-off or he's having a particularly bad day or something. So I'd be quite prepared to accept an apology on this occasion.

So back to Thatcher.

Apart from pulling back power from the unions and the Falklands what did she actually do that was good for the country?

I have to say in my experience, over here, fresh vegetables and fruit, especially the ones that aren't that interesting, are quite cheap. Cabbage, onions, carrots, apples, bananas can all be got quite cheap. There's a strong connection between income and health but I'm inclined to agree with peter that the reason for this is not that healthy food is too expensive.

Of course, if you're gonna go for the whole organic, fair trade, gluten free blah blah then it's really pricey.

Good meat and fish are very expensive though.

It's not just about the price of produce I think though Gene. There's such a poor standard of education in areas of poverty that I truly they don't know what healthy nutrition is. Granted there's probably a load of bone idle bastards who think a ready meal from Iceland banged in the microwave is an easy option too.

She inspired a countless number of bad impressions.

I agree with that Sunny, I think nutrition should be taught to all kids.

Your diet's going to to go a bit down the veggie route there though Gene. It's a choice but then again the other options getting your face round a Burger and fries. I can't see wife's of the unemployed having a dilemma in the High Street...mouthing the words burger or veg, burger or veg?, burger or veg?

I suspect they'll probably say "ah fuck it I'll get the burger, don't even have to buy washing up liquid or put money in the meter to use the cooker, just chuck the wrapper in the bin/over the sofa". Bad choices made because of price, convenience and taste.

I can't link bad food choices to Thatch though.

i notice peter cant bring himself to condemn the pinochet and pot support

He posted the below sir:

I wouldn't defend the Pinochet and Pol Pot connections, except to say that I think politics is a dirty business and almost all leaders tend to have these obnoxious episodes. She was a politician, so I tend to judge her in that context. It's bad, no doubt, but worse than Blair and Gaddafi? Or Blair lying in order to send his people to die in a pointless war? Or Cameron supporting the continuation of the Afghanistan war in return for The Lying Rag's political support?

Probably not.

i read that. its very qualified so doesnt read like a condemnation to me.

I concur ... Tbh, people struggle with this kind of stuff because (as he says) it's politicains (kinda like people will never condemn Churchill for indirectly supporting the Final Solution by closing off the only piece of land that would accept Jews during WWII).

Before I leave - I'm not comparing Churchill to Thatcher or saying anything about Thatcher (I've stayed out because, unlike what Andy implied, I don't really care (or know enough to debate intelligently!))

Well in all fairness to Pinochet. There were only about 3000 people who were killed and a measly 80,000 incarcerated and 30,000 tortured. And Pol Pot did only kill about a measly 2 million people.

Ha !

They learnt nothing from Lenin and Mao then.

General question related to the nutritious food element: Do they teach cooking in the school your son/daughter goes to?

Nope, but that may have something to do with my boy being 4 and the gal 2 ... but not sure.

Tut tut, Dad, they do do cooking, it's just with plasticine and plastic crockery (you might need to Google some of that, it could be quintessentially a British thing)
