So it's all gone a bit quiet , why ?

So after the signing of Henderson , missing out on jones and rumours galore that we were close to tying up a number of deals , everything has sort of gone quiet on the transfer front . Why do you reckon that is ?

Have we just missed out on our targets (Young , Jones and even Marveaux) and are now reassessing options ?
We seem to know our other targets - Adams , Downing etc - so why are these deals taking so long ?

Is it different individual reasons for these or is there a larger factor - like maybe our budget isn't as much as we thought and requires some sales before we can buy ? . These Meireles rumours just won't go away !

Obviously I'm not panicking just yet and it's very early into the transfer window , it's just strange how quiet things have gone since a hectic start to the window.

I think it's just usual stuff RedZep, holidays etc. The International window doesn't open either does it until next month? It'll all start kicking off soon, it's not just us, it's everyone.

Agreed, but I'd add that Kenny's made it clear we'll be doing business behind closed doors as much as possible from now on.

And perhaps surprisingly, that clear out could begin with Raul Meireles, who was the only one of last summer's signings to make a real impact at Anfield.

The Portugal international midfielder was voted fans' player of the year after a promising debut in the Premier League, but he failed to hold down a place in central midfield for the Reds.

Instead he was often used wide of midfield, and with Downing and perhaps another winger on their way to Liverpool, his options would be further limited, as would his chances in the centre with the capture of Jordan Henderson and Adam.

Talks have proceeded on an informal basis with Inter Milan, and now the indications are that the Italians will get their man if they offer Liverpool a profit on their initial £12million outlay...and that deal could be processed quickly.

The Reds are also in talks with Roma over the sale of Alberto Aquilani, and new Fulham boss Martin Jol is interested in Joe Cole, while Dalglish is also looking to offload Milan Jovanovic, Maxi Rodriguez, Christian Poulsen, Paul Konchesky and Philipp Degen amongst others.

and these transfer windows make things really frustrating , clubs try and stall deals as long as possible in order to panic the buying club and force them into paying more . Drags things on and on all summer .

But I do agree that it's a good thing we've returned to doing things behind closed doors but even then the papers usually have a good idea of what going on , at moment everything seems to have "stalled" a bit , no news anywhere .

I think we need to shift a few out before we add any more, and that could be at least part of the hold up.

France, germany,Italy and Spain cannot make international transfers until the 1st of July, when the window is officially open, quite alot of players will still be on holiday post international friendlies/ qualifiers the other week too.

I imagine we'll have a far greater understanding of who's signing who on the first of July..

I was just looking at ben Smith's twitter after hansern tricked me into believing he said a deal for Mata was 95% done. Anyway , he mentioned that a key person was on holidays and that was holding up deals . He also mentioned that we're biding our time on another for a fair price . All fair enough i guess , hopefully things start rolling in july before pre-season starts .

I know but, Jesus!, what kind of contract is he on? It seems like he's been clogging up the injury bench for 3 years now, surely at some point it becomes more financially worthwhile to just release the frigger?

He's on 40k a week and we have to pay it even if we release him

He only has a year left now.

I suspect he will go on loan again, probably with us paying a chunk of his wages while he is there.

I imagine if we could get a team to take him on a free transfer we would jump at the chance but not many clubs are stupid enough to pay him as much as we do.

How the fuck is Degen still on our books?
[/quote]

Forgetting all other arguments , when it comes to the Rafa debate , nobody can deny he made some amazingly bad signings ....when we were signing Degen I asked my german mates about him and they all said he was shite and a nobody in the bundesliga .So if a bunch or normal lads can see that why couldn't we ? . Him and El Zhar ...it's a disgrace they can still call themselves Liverpool players ! .

El Zhar wasn't a bad signing at the time. Young player, highly rated at youth level, low fee so worth a go probably.

That he is still under contract though is madness. He was given a new deal in 2009 and hardly ever played after that.

Why don't football clubs have a clause in the contract that says if a player is not available to play in less than X% of games for whatever reason (prison, injury) he can be released from his contract if the club so wish.

We probs have to shift The FUCK OFF 11 before we can sign anyone.

You could drop Cole in the hole, Jova wide left and El Zhar on the right instead, Jay's not really done nowt wrong
