So, Luis to Barca.....

I like that if

Barca: 35m+Sanchez...our last offer
Henry says 'Actually, we dont want to sell our player at all'
Barca: yeah but but...listen may be 40m+S
Henry: what did I just say, just fuck off

I think if we get Sanchez plus at least £40m it's the best deal we could probably hope for. I like that Sanchez has that knack of harrassing players and being difficult to shrug off the ball, he has alot of potential for this league, in that respect and it would be interesting to see if he could handle that central role. While of course spending the rest on another TOP quality player.

Too many whispers though about Sanchez not wanting to come here..

Yep, as I said in the Sanchez thread. Things could change if Barca havent talked to him about this after the WC, but if he doesnt want to join us then move on. Take the cash and move to the next target.

Its a shame if he isnt interested as he's a great player. Been a lot of stories about him fancing a move back to Italy.

As mentioned in the bite thread a number of papers are reporting that Ayre is to meet in London with Barca reps to discuss the deal.

Is there a scenario where we come out significantly better because of this deal or is it a loss no matter what?
Straight swap with Messi?
On a serious note, I think 50 million plus Sanchez would be a fantastic deal.

so even if we manage to get him, he doesnt really want to come here.... who else could we sign? are there any up and comers ala torres/suarez when we bought them?

Yeah, I posted that aswell. It is the Mirror though.
If this is reported by the Times and Echo aswell then we can rule Sanchez out. Sadly..

I think the Aldo comparison (or Dalglish for Keegan) comparison is the key one. Like for like, or at least striker for striker. If Suarez goes we just have to get a genuinely top class goalscorer. Get others by all means, but if we're going for the title we just cannot afford to be weakened in that area.

That's the main point here. We'll be able to add 10 or so goals from midfield at a push, but realistically we're going to need to find a 20+ a season striker to maintain our level of performance.

I also think £65M represents good value for Suarez. His talent suggests more, but when he misses 20% of your matches every year then he's not going to be in Bale and Ronaldo price-range. If we get more than that we have done well.

Marco Reus apparantly has a 40 mill release clause

i heard that top class player lof times but I have seriously no idea who is available right now even for 50m and who would like to come to us

It's very difficult but we really have to stand firm. When a club is prepared to offer another player as part of the deal, 99% of the time that means they're getting rid of a lesser player for a better player, so there's no generosity involved. If there's a release clause, they must meet it or go away. If Suarez then wants to hand in a transfer request, let him do it, and we'll demand at least the same amount. We've not fought our way back up the table and back into Europe only to be sabotaged by these creeps. We either get £80m+ to buy another game changer, or we tell them where to go.

I don't want Sanchez if he's not overly keen on coming. Reus would be great but again not sure he'd want to come.

That's the problem with trying to replace Suarez, we are starting to talk about pjayers that have their pick of clubs and we probably still represent a risk. Are we back for good or was last season a one off?

Ben Smith is one of the more reliable:
It is not yet clear whether Sanchez would be willing to move in part-exchange, although the Spanish club would be willing to include him in a deal.

But Sanchez is a long shot.

Hasnt this always been the case? We've rarely been that big a draw, regardless of status.

It's a Jack and the Beanstalk scenario. We've got a cow that someone wants. We ought to keep the cow, but if we don't then we need the magic beans, not a fiver for the cow plus a sickly piglet. Magic beans or we keep the cow, feckers!!!

I think a deal for Sanchez plus something like £40m can be a tremendous boost to the club for the next 5-10 years, so long as we spend that money pretty well. We'd have enough to pretty much correct every problem in the squad: LB, CB, RB, GK, depth in attack.

Whether we will or not is a different story, but I'm excited at the possibilities.

Although I agree with your premise I think your figures are way out. The money from the PL, Sky and CL means transfer fees have rocketed for high quality players and everyone knows PL teams have the cash. £10m is the new £5m, £20m the new £1m and so on. £40m would only cover 2-3 of those positions (though we already have cash to spend and will have more in the coming years if the sponsorship/prize money remains at such a high level).

You'd think Suarez was the only good player to ever pull on the Liverpool shirt the way some of you are talking.

So he leaves? I'm not sure Anfield will collapse.

We'll have 80M to spend, the whole fucking world of footballers to look at, and the greatest cunt to ever play for us no longer at the club. I can live with that.

Oh, and the Sanchez thing is a non-runner to me.

We'll get 65M-odd in cash and that's that.

I've posted the specifics of PL winning teams before but can't be bothered trying to find it now.

Basically if you look back at the goal-scorers for PL winning teams over say the past 10 years you'll find they consist of one of two types: those that have an out-and-out goalscorer capable of delivering 23-28 goals a season plus one or two in the 10-12 goal bracket OR teams that have 4-5 goalscorers in the 12-15 goals a season bracket. We've already got Sturridge in the 20+ we need 2-3 capable of chipping in with 12-15.

You talk as if it's easy to a) replace a 30 goal striker and b) one of the top players in the world ... It's not ... and if we fuck it up, we're out of the CL ... You underestimate how good this player is, and how critical he was in our run last year ...
