So, Luis to Barca.....

BBC, Times and Tony Barrett still claiming £70-£80 region, those are the guys to trust in terms of contacts within Liverpool.

It will be 75 mill imho. Echo is probably the safest bet on this.
Will have to look elsewhere than Sanchez but we'll have someone else lined up.

I just want to say thanks suarez for signing the 4+ year deal so that we would get proper value for him this summer. Everyone knew he was off so this deal paid him a big weekly salary, added a release clause and gave us barganing power. Win win .
Now he can fuck off the bitey cunt.

I agrer with that. He wanted out last summer and it was clear to me that he would still want to go to one of Spain's giants this summer. It looked like he'd go to Madrid but now this transfer to Barcelona proves that he simply wanted to go to eithet. He's 27 and the window of opportunities was closing for him.
I was hoping that last season mihht have changed his mind, but this wasn't to be.
So yes, I loved him as long as he was our playet, but now he can just fuck off.

Is it just me who's wondering exactly why we gave him an expensive new contract last season? What was the benefit for us?

Yeah, put in place a cast iron get out clause that was significantly higher than 40 million pounds, plus made him feel his earnings reflected his place as one of the world's best players, and stopped chatter that he was unhappy at the club (even if ultimately still fancied a move). All-in-all, it was excellent business on our end.

My feeling is I think he did right by LFC. He signed a contract therefore ensuring us top whack in any summer transfer. He got us into the CL (not exactly single handedly I'll admit) He's also the finest player I've ever seen pull on the red shirt. I'm gutted that he is going but he goes without a bad taste in my mouth. The bitey bellend is alright by me.

Good bye Luisa - and please please LFC - spend the money wisely.
They already have imho. It's who else they are going to get that has piqued my curiosity. This coming season is all about getting depth and continuing with BR's fine footy philosophy. We'll be reet.

It was great business for him. I'm not sure how it did us any good.

You think he would have been happy to stay and not be a prick on his current deal? When Arse were offering him whatever they were offering? I think it was a great idea to give him an extra few million quid. He played his heart out and we almost won the league, and now we're getting 30 more for him than if he'd have forced the issue on his old contract. Perfect.

Well that's assuming there was anything to force in his old contract. Seeing as he pushed pretty hard last summer, I presume not.

It's not a big deal, we've come out of it ok, but I don't particularly see how it's benefited us. We forced him to stay - he played great. He got a pay rise - he kept on playing great. What's the difference?

Whatevers, I reckon the board did great over this. We improved massively as a team and made loads of dough while at it. I wish my year had gone like that.

We protected ourselves a bit more in terms of his selling price, as has been said. (Although add up his obscenely high wages from January to now and that's a bit of a dent in the final sum.) Maybe the club realised what an unscrupulous shit he is and acted accordingly. I'm quite surprised at what an easy ride he's getting from fans. He had the entire team reshaped to suit his needs and his game, so no wonder he did so well last season, and now all of that will have to be revised. He's not the best player in the club's history, and he's one of the worst men to play for us.

. He's not the best player in the club's history, and he's one of the worst men to play for us.

He's certainly caused his fair share of bother but in my mind he is without doubt the best. Our more seasoned SCM folk might disagree but that is an argument for another day.

I can understand wanting to reframe things now that it seems he is going, but I just don't see this as true. He moved to accomodate a worse player in Sturridge, and we were better for it, but in some games he was really hugging the left wing, and there's no way that's where he wanted to be. Whatever else you can say about Suarez, he's not the sort of moany striker that has to be played in a certain position, and he'll do the hard work from beginning to end of a game. Whatever adjustments we did make around Suarez being in the side were with good reason, as he was our best player by a country mile.

I think we've been quite lucky with the strikers we've seen over the years. I hope we have another situation where Torres leaves and Suarez comes in, but I don't think lightning will strike twice here. Whether we get an extra 5 million for him or not will be beside the point if we fritter it away, which we have a record of doing as well.

Indeed.

Well you can say 'indeed' as much as you like, but Suarez has liked the freedom to play out wide for Uruguay and Ajax in the past and he most certainly wasn't just shoved out for Sturridge's benefit. As Rodgers has said many times (maybe he's deluded, too), he changed his system expressly to get the best out of Suarez. He either did or he didn't. He says he did. It looked as though he did. The results/stats suggest that he did. I guess you think this was an illusion. Pool little Luis, no wonder he needed to negotiate behind the club's back.
