🤢

Who's that? Seen him somewhere before.

Why wouldn't they? They don't really shy away from a reason to make us look like we've fucked up, it's easier to cherry pick the lower amount because it makes for a story.

Can't see what they would have to gain from that. £64m is still a massive fee for any player, makes him the 3rd most expensive player ever.

I'm sure most journalists just go on what their sources are telling them.

just hope we don't do a spurs with 8 players or so in the 11-18m bracket (exc Lamela).

re: suarez cash, Let's go for 2 or 3 players 30m+. Real quality in depth and use our youth players as back-up.

I think we've already spent some of the Suarez cash to be honest.

Hang on a sec, the transfer is not on Binny's thread - maybe there is hope? I won't believe he has gone until the transfer has been Binnyfied.

£30m doesn't guarantee success, people need to forget the fees, would you rather have Sturridge and Coutinho, or Ozil? It's largely irrelevant and doesn't automatically equal success, people seem to have rose tinted glasses when it comes to anyone being touted for £30m of more.

Markovic will cost in the region of £20-£25m while Lallana cost more or less the same. Yet people seem to discount that because one is young and the other is less fancied because he's English and didn't come from the continent. It's daft thinking.

I get the sentiment, we don't want to be a Spurs, but we still had to build a squad to challenge on more fronts, so picking up the odd lower priced players was essential.

Here's one for everyone

"@JasonRoberts30: Sorry Romario, Ronaldo and Messi..but I will now be switching my allegiances to Real Madrid with immediate effect..Barca shirt in the bin.."

[article]Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers today issued the below statement following the announcement that an agreement has been reached with Barcelona for Luis Suarez to leave the club.

"Luis is a very special talent and I thank him for the role he has played in the team in the past two years, during my time at Liverpool.

"I think he would be the first to accept he has improved as a player over that period, along with the team and has benefited from being here, as we have benefited from him.

"The club have done all they can over a sustained period of time to try to keep Luis at Liverpool. It is with great reluctance and following lengthy discussions we have eventually agreed to his wishes to move to Spain for new experiences and challenges. We wish him and his young family well; we will always consider them to be friends.

"We are focused on the future, as we strive to continue with the progress we have made and build on last season's excellent Barclays Premier League campaign.

"I am confident we will improve the team further and will be stronger for this coming season, when we will be competing on all fronts; domestically and in the greatest club competition in the world, the Champions League.

"If there is one thing the history of this great club teaches us, it is that Liverpool FC is bigger than any individual. I hope our supporters continue to dream and believe that we are moving forward and with continued improvement and progression, together we will bring the success we all crave and deserve."[/article]

Wonder who wrote that for him?

It would be nice to know what Rodgers really thinks about it all, probably be a long time until we find that out.

Reading between the lines, you could probably get an idea. Stuff about how Suarez himself would acknowledge that he's improved with us (i.e. we helped made him what he is), the sustained period of time the club tried hard to keep him (i.e. we're really tried of this shit show again), how Suarez and his family are friends of the club (rather than members of the extended Liverpool family), and the line about no individuals being bigger than the club.

I suppose there's this excellent aspect of Suarez he really loves when working with him, and then there's this circus sideshow that keeps happening and really tests his patience.

Yeah, its not hard to imagine really, basically along the lines of your last sentence.

If he had the choice to keep him do you think he would have?

I'd be tempted to say 100% he would, because some guys coach a lifetime and don't get to manage this sort of talent, and here he is with guys like Suarez, Sturridge and Gerrard to work with. Despite all the shit circus around the player, I'd think he'd have had time for him. It's a bit like how Ferguson dealt with some of his star players. Until they were crocked or out of form, then he kicked them out and thereby exacted his revenge.

But I'm not sure Rodgers ever had much of a choice. The die was probably cast when the new contract was signed.
