Rafa just makes too much sense.
All the youth players he bought, the system in place from the academy upwards. It's there for him to finish what he started.
Look at these for a list of players HE recruited. Torres, Alonso, Mascherano, Agger, Reina, Lucas, Skrtel, Luis Garcia, Peter Crouch, Sissoko, Johnson, Aurelio, Benayoun, Bellamy, Maxi Rodriguez- when he went for quality, he GOT quality
Look at how he managed to get Torres firing and the goals dried up when he left, look at how he moved Carragher into the middle and got him defending like a pro and utilised Gerrard as an attacking midfielder who went from scoring 1 goal in 5 games, to 1 goal in 3 and helped both become two of the most respected players in Europe.
It's not just qualifying for the Champions League that is important. It's performing in it as well. Benitez is a man that took us 2 European Cup finals winning one, 3 European Semi Finals, vanquishing the "unrealistic" target Mourinho TWICE in Semi Final's. Here are a list of European teams vanquished by Benitez, see if you recognise any of them: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Benfica, Bayer Leverkusen, AC Milan in the final and more.
Benitez for all his detractors is a man who delivered our best league points total in 20 years, won us an FA Cup, stood up to Ferguson when no-one else would, who literally fell on his sword to oust the club of the previous set of charlatans when at the time, rated as a world class manager he could have WALKED AWAY AT ANY TIME to pretty much ANY club vacancy and left us in the shit- but he didn't, because he fell in love with the club, the people, the Liverpool way.
Loads of the youth players he brought in during his tenure and was maligned for buying by the no nothing media are reaching the age where they can start to be utilised, the systems that he installed and are still in place from the youth set up all the way to the reserves, a youth set up complimented by the "unrealistic" target Guardiola as second ONLY to Barcelona are there.
The one man, who out of all of the names put forward, deserved and deserves an opportunity to finish what he started, to complete the job he put so much work into for the benefit of our football club and us the fans. To stick it down the naysayers throats and take us back where we belong as a force in England and all of Europe. Someone who would JUMP at the chance to manage us as well, we wouldn't even need to sell it to him.
But (and no disrespect intended to him if Martinez gets the gig) we are considering potentially Martinez, Rodgers and these sort of managers and not including someone of Rafa's clear cut calibre because of some "politics" or because Ayre might not get along with him? Can it not be ironed out? Was Rafa really that bad a person, was he not just wound up at being lied to, looking into twisted mirrors and having promises to him reneged on? Can there not be agreements on both sides, written into a contract even, if ultimately it is for the benefit of the fucking football club? Why do we seemingly feel excited at not just cutting off our noses, but chopping off our heads to spite our face?
Who else can hit the ground running, can walk seamlessly straight into Anfield and Melwood and get straight to work? There are no "out of the game" arguments for Benitez, he's ready, rested and can be unleashed on the team and the English division again. With a competent squad already in place, he wouldn't need to wheel or deal like he did on the past, he could focus on using his reputation of making players better, to bring in the required quality and improve the first team.
Rafa Benitez, It makes way too much sense and for those reasons, it won't happen, but at the very fucking least, he should be interviewed.
