So who do we want/expect/hope?

Martinez is going to lead us to the promised land.
I love this time of year when we all dream that everything is going to be all right and we haven't been bitten by cold hard reality yet.
Where is that graph?

If we can't be optimistic when a ball hasn't been kicked, then when can we?

I think we're going to be much better next year

It is also understood that former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is in talks with the club, but there is no “favourite” for the club’s owners, who are keen to appoint quickly.

Fenway Sports Group are thought to be wanting to hire a young manager long-term and back him with a £30million transfer fund this summer. Martinez remains the favourite.

Guardiola told the footballing world he would take a least a year out of the sport after resigning as Barcelona boss earlier this month.

Capello resigned as England manager three months ago, and is thought to want to end his managerial career with a club in the Premier League.

Former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, who was sensationally sacked at Stamford Bridge two months ago, has also been in discussions with Liverpool.

Swansea’s Brendan Rodgers ruled himself out of the running for the job today, declining the club’s request to speak about the open position, left by the departure of Kenny Dalglish earlier this week.

The speculation continues

there is no favourite then. but martinez remains favourite.

When he was linked to the Spurs job Rodgers said:
"I learnt very early in my career, I probably tried to run to the top of the mountain and I fell over and fell all the way back down. But I have now found a club that's perfect for me and the city is a wonderful city. I love living here, my family loves living here and I am 39 years of age and I hope to have longevity in the game. I hope to be in the game for a number of years and of course somewhere along that line it would be great to have that opportunity to work at that (Champions League) level. But I do believe I am at a top club here which has grown and grown and I am very blessed and happy to be here"

I doubt he'll move just yet.

Some of the hacks suggesting, the names of Capello and Guardiola have been leaked deliberately to press so they can appease the fans as they know the club have no chance of getting either.

Realistically club looking at Martinez/Rodgers appointmnet

Fixed that for you, he turned us down.

Well, yeah, but tbh you can only ask anyway. If they were leaking the names but not asking at all I'd be annoyed.

At least Rogers has turned us down.

Im still bemused by the attempted talks with Rogers and the talks with Martinez.

How does the club expect to attract top talent, outside of the top 4, without a big name fronting a big project? I appreciate that everyone has to start somewhere but neither are hardly inspiring candidates..

mate I don't buy this you need a big name to bring in big players thing. Loads of managers of top clubs have signed top players without being previoulsy world beating managers. Mind you HC I don't really know what your definition of a big name is?

Do explain mate? 😉

Rafa Benitez for me. Loves us. Not the fickle love. Proper love. Has undoubted skill as a coach, and has improved a number of players. Top tactician. I think he could finish in the top 4 with the squad as it stands. I would like to see a strong and charismatic DOF if we appointed Rafa though. I think he's learned his lessons and has admitted mistakes in the past.

Won't happen though.

What makes you think that?

He's said as much in interviews in the past year. Rafa never admitted mistakes in the past. But he has said he got a lot wrong. I think the break from the game has allowed him some self analysis and critical reflection. He would be a better manager now than he was, I firmly believe that.
