So who do we want/expect/hope?

mate I don't buy this you need a big name to bring in big players thing. Loads of managers of top clubs have signed top players without being previoulsy world beating managers. Mind you HC I don't really know what your definition of a big name is?

Do explain mate? 😉
It was a bit flippant but i absolutely believe that a club needs a big character leading it. Ofcourse anyone can sign whoever they want.but a club like this needs a true leader.

Also which nomark managers bought in these pre-exisiting big names? Finances most likely did it not their cache as a man of all men.

We arent loaded? We certainly arent playing well or in the champions league.

So our edge comes from a manager who can build a project and attract top talent, Rafa has that i believe, Martinez does not..

Did he say in them that he made mistakes and has learned from them? Honestly I don't remember that.

I remember him bleating on about the previous owners changing everything.

I don't recall Rafa specifying particular examples, but he has copped to the fact that mistakes were made.

Having said that, I'm less confident than the doc that he'd be a different man(ager) this time around.

See here's the fucking thing.

These Americans are so fucking clueless that they have to interview everyone. "So Brendan tell us about your football style?".

Any cunt with a clue knows already.

They'd ask Messi to go on trial these two gimps.

At least Rogers has turned us down.

Im still bemused by the attempted talks with Rogers and the talks with Martinez.

How does the club expect to attract top talent, outside of the top 4, without a big name fronting a big project? I appreciate that everyone has to start somewhere but neither are hardly inspiring candidates..

If we appoint Martinez type of manger, it would suggest we have no money and are looking at young players (under 21) and a coach to develop them

I imagine it goes something like this:

Henry: How much money do you think you'll need to make Liverpool a top 4 club.
Candidate: X

If X is greater than 10 million:
Henry: We will give you a ring sometime next week and let you know.

If X is less than 10 million:
Henry: You're hired

On a side note - how much did Rafa get from us as part of his severance package? Was it more than the £4 that we we're offering him?

Looks like were getting in someone to steady the ship. 8th is the new 4th!!

ah, do you include top ex players who don't have much managerial experience in your big name group fella

No, he said he has made mistakes. It was in the BBC interview in his house.

Rafa Benitez for me. Loves us. Not the fickle love. Proper love. Has undoubted skill as a coach, and has improved a number of players. Top tactician. I think he could finish in the top 4 with the squad as it stands. I would like to see a strong and charismatic DOF if we appointed Rafa though. I think he's learned his lessons and has admitted mistakes in the past.

Won't happen though.

Rafa wants to control every detail, though. I don't think he can work with a Director of Football.

Well that's clearly part of the understandings upon which he takes the job. As I said, I'd only appoint Rafa if he was partnered with a strong and charismatic DOF. Not some wet lettuce like Commolli.

That's the thing though - he may agree to something in theory, but I simply don't think it would work in practice, however charismatic the DOF was. Rafa is a control freak. That's fair enough - it can work in a system that affords him control - but I don't think he could work in the "progressive" system we're apparently trying to develop.
