I meant to ask before, but why did Starmer say he'd try and make Brexit work, surely there's a big opportunity for an opposition party to come out and get behind another referendum?
Probably the focus groups, and the media and whatever else.. Thinks that it'll lose him too many votes as so many of the 'traditional Labour' voted brexit.
Maybe, if it's not Labour, there has to be room for some party to grab that vote, imagine it's reasonably substantial at this point.

The country is right leaning and conservative.
Of the last 120 years labour have been in charge for 30 of them. So maybe Starmer is very focussed on getting to the seat by being a blue in red clothes.

As things stand he can just stay where he is until next June. There can't be another Conservative confidence vote until then.
I imagine they will try to change the rules though, but even that would take a few weeks.
