Historians would engage their brains to identify the things which caused the Germans to elect Hitler, his rhetoric, reparations, national debt, employment, whatever it is you can learn lessons that are true and applicable to the world. We both know people won't look at the causes for Sweden in the same way, because the cause is known already of course! The Swedes are a bunch of backwards racists who hate immigrants and gays, and they need to be educated and lectured to by their morally superior counterparts in LA and New York, until they understand what it means to be a loving and tolerant human being. Sweden is at a boiling point. Although I refuse to believe that over 20% of the voters are racists, it's quite clear that a significant amount of people are unhappy with the country's immigration policies. Over 20% expressed their belief with their vote, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's at least 20-40% more who share the same viewpoint regarding immigration and crime. No one I know is happy with the status quo.
Although the right wing party Sweden democrats (Sverige Demokraterna) are the second largest party, they won't be part of the government (highest executive authority). but they'll have a powerful position in the Riksdag (the legislature and the supreme decision-making body).
If they'd expressed their belief with their prior spending habits, then corporations would compete for their krona by producing better goods and services. Alas the people decided to signal their political virtues with their spending habits, to signal to everyone how much they care about LGBTQ issues and how much they care about the climate, and so corporations compete for their krona by being more virtuous. You can't blame them. Then those corporations increase their revenues, then they become the ones who buy the government ministers, who in turn signal their virtue, and round and round you go in your new world.

Any idea how right wing they are compared to the parties in the UK or wherever? The current Greek government are quite right wing in some of their rhetoric but they still have free health care and education. You can still claim money for prescription glasses, prescription medicine is heavily subsidised etc.

They're not right wing in the conservative sense, like it's not about privatizing the public sector. Sweden is still a social democratic country certain thing won't change.
The Sweden democrats voter base mostly consists of working class people on country side. It's former Social Democrats (left wing party) who are just expressing their dissatisfaction with immigration and crime.

Overall Sweden seems locked into the same immigration dilemma as many countries whilst trying to shoehorn it's own national ideas into the straightjacket of "EU law". Even the UK who nominally isn't in the EU, follows rulings by the ECHR which just stalls action. Everyone knows open borders are unsustainable but are too polite to do the right thing. It's pathetic.

The people in Leicester aren't asylum seekers exerting any ECHR claims. They are "students" whose educational backgrounds allow them to pass the IELTS exam fairly easily, whose distant "relatives" over here allow them to pass the financial support tests fairly easily, and whose culture doesn't give a damn about your woke nonsense.
But there's only set of "highly trusted sponsors" who are so altruistically eager to sponsor all their visas.
Some will be locals, but they are just the normal minority of scumbags you get in all populations. The international students are not scumbags by their standards, they just come from a place where Hindus and Muslims have a fanatical thirst for each others blood, and are experts in pushing each others buttons to provoke bloodshed. Fair fucks to them, they're restrained compared to what would happen in similar riots in India. They should be congratulated.
I think there's a decent portion that are British and NI, which would probably be much the same allegiance. I think it's more interesting to look at what percentage is either British or British and something, vs similar to Irish, or indeed NI(which is the growing number from a quick look).
The strange thing I noticed is while the % of Catholics and/or those who claim just to be Irish is creeping up, the % of Protestants and those who claim just to be British both fell by quite a bit. I suspect the % of Protestants possibly fell because it's an older population and the British only % possibly fell so much because of Brexit and/or the state of the Tories.
Are middle class Protestants still going to university in larger numbers in England/Scotland and then settling there?

Yes I just heard it, I’ve never seen data on it myself! But if you were to assume that middle-class protestants are the people who are most likely to identify as British, rather than northern Irish, then maybe it would make sense as one explanation as to why the percentage of people identifying as British is declining.
