Sunlit Uplands

Prosecco is vastly overrated

Oh god yes - I’d rather drink water than that shite.

Unfortunately there seems to be quite a market for shit wine in the UK - most of the Aussie stuff that gets sent over is awful as well.

You’re like the South American’s. Keep the good shit for yourself.

Hahahahaha

It’s been changing in recent years as the wine industry recognised there was increasingly fewer dollars to be made from bulk wine.

I’d imagine there’s a great opportunity for the UK to get it’s hand on some quality Aussie wine at knockdown prices thanks to China.

Whether the cheap prices get passed on to consumer is another issue.

For balance, in other news Nissan announce they're staying in Sunderland.
Only after tax payers money was given to them to beg them to stay to cope with brexit..

No wonder they are happy to be here.. Tax breaks and all that..

And a decision on the future of Vauxhall Ellesmere Port due in next few weeks. Not holding my breath

Apparently advisors for the DIT have been advising companies wishing to export to the EU that they should set up a separate company in the EU to get round it.

Of course it likely means moving jobs and resources, etc to the EU... but hey ho... taking back control.

You couldn't make it up.. shows the incompetence of this government.

British businesses that export to the continent are being encouraged by government trade advisers to set up separate companies inside the EU in order to get around extra charges, paperwork and taxes resulting from Brexit, the Observer can reveal.

In an extraordinary twist to the Brexit saga, UK small businesses are being told by advisers working for the Department for International Trade (DIT) that the best way to circumvent border issues and VAT problems that have been piling up since 1 January is to register new firms within the EU single market, from where they can distribute their goods far more freely.

Taking back control

No post-Brexit deal yet for financial services, and the EU not in a hurry:

‘London lost €6bn daily stock trades to the EU on Jan 4;

‘JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs & others have moved billions in assets and thousands of staff to new offices in Frankfurt, Paris and across the EU.’

It's unbelievable. Apparently a cheese company would need, for every £30 box they sell, a veterinary certificate costing £180. Business is being lost, jobs will be lost or moved to the EU and buying stuff from the EU costs more because of VAT rules. It's a fucking mess that was entirely predictable but shrugged off by bellends as Project Fear. Well where the fuck are all the benefits? Wheres the sunlit uplands ? At the moment it seems the best we can hope for is if something stays the same as it was.

As I've said, I purposely avoid the news and media, so I might have missed something, but I am yet to see a single positive of Brexit. Seriously, is there anything?

Blue passports that are made in the EU apparently.

Ha. I know you're against it, and I am, too. But seriously, objectively, is there anything, no matter how small a consolation, anything to come out of it?

Because I've not heard a single thing that's worthy of a mention.

I was going to do a long, detailed post about I'm made up it's going tits up in a weird, self destructive way. But I'm not sure I can be arsed. I just hope the cunts that voted for it feel suitably silly.

Fish, loads of it and crappy kind no one wants to eat over here but better start soon.

I’ve not seen anything yet and I’m looking for it. Even Liverpool have been shite since Brexit

That's behind a paywall for me. Is the general idea that the EU didn't move forward much with Merkel and the UK were left with no choice but to leave?

There was some pro-Brexit people on here before, genuinely interested to see if they are happy with how it's going so far.
