THE ASHES... 2009

Shit bowling since lunch.

looks like a draw now with tomorrow probably being a wash out

shame

Play re-starts @ 5.05.

Never trust the weather Fox. It was gonna piss down in Blackpool all day last Sat (or so the forecast told me on Friday night), I went up there with me bird and it was glorious.

Now it's started raining again so play won't re-start at 5.05.

I am pleased about this and hope that Saturday is a washout as predicted by the forecasters. The Aussies are heading for a first-innings lead well over 100. I will settle for a draw - a reminder to our bowlers that they need to up their performance if they are going to get those buggers out twice at Lord's.

England's bowling attack has been shite for a while. Flintoff remains a class above everyone else. If Harmison doesn't come to Lords with his 2005 form then England can kiss the Ashes goodbye.

The weather has come to our rescue... Huzzah!!

Drop Monty for the next test, bring in one of the Durham quickies... Or both!

I can see the Aussies getting a lead of around 200 and then out batter's absolutely bottling it!

It wouldn't be the first time, would it?

In that situation I could envisage Pietersen attempting a reverse one-legged hook to Third Man! ;D

Tomorrow is going to be a wash out when the rain starts... Not even our batters could bottle it in a one day situation.... could they?

Heading for a draw if the rain kicks in.

Had it been a full weekend of play I'd fancy the Aussies to turn England over without having to bat for a second innings.

I think we've seen already that both sides can bat and the issue will be whether the bowlers will stpe up a gear or there'll be a wicket effective enough for either side to take 20 wickets on.

I'm sure there will.

It's as people mentioned at the start, if England are going to be successful then their big names have to play out oif their skin and the Aussie team, while seemingly unknown is still filled with enough quality to win a series in England.

A lot of interesting stories developing from this series already.

No rain yet... the lead is almost 200. Dire dire viewing, credit to the aussies, but the run rate is so poor.

They know they can't lose the test now so I think they'll bat until tea before sticking England in leaving a day and a session to bowl us out.

I think they'll give us 8-10 overs before tea myself if the weather holds out.

Yeah but he's a genius, you take the rough with the smooth, in no way did our best batsman throwing away his wicket influence the gamezzzzzzzzzzzzz!

After steadfastly refusing to give any LBW decisions up to now, Umpire Billy Doctrove suddenly decides to give one against Bopara when the ball was going over the stumps!

Our batsmen are quite capable of getting out by themselves without help from the umpires!

I'm praying for rain tomorrow. I can't see us having the composure to just bat through the day, not worrying about runs, just making sure they don't get knocked over.

No rain forecast Bristow... with 98 overs to be bowled until 7pm.

Oh happy days.

We dont have to bat out. We just have to bat long enough to get a total sufficient that they cant knock it off in the remaining overs.

:)

But feel I've been here before so many times - watching the England wickets fall one after the other on the last day of a test, and praying in vain that somebody is going to make a stand.

The first time I went through this pain was when Richie Benaud skittled out the England team for about 80 some time around 1960! ::)

Ha ha ha... I take it that was a piss take ;-)

I reckon any score we post with 20 overs or more remaining the Aussies will be confident of making. It's going to be a very very dull day scoring wise tomorrow.

Haddin will get found out on our tracks and he certainly weakens there batting for me.

Hark at Mystic Meg - ;)

This is a very slow and easy batting track. Anybody could avoid getting out for hours and hours on it. However, as usual the England batsmen will be defeated by the voices in their heads. ::)

1st test and one innings in, lets just wait and see what happens after 5 have been played.

maybe the English can blame the eye gauging Saffers for this?

For what?
Are England getting humped ?
Yes and no. Those two great batsmen Anderson and Panesar managed to bat out for a draw, much to Ponting's disappointment!

It was nail-biting stuff. :)

We got battered for about 80% of the match, but the Aussies weren't capable of getting our last two out when it mattered. Some questionable bowling choices from Ponting didn't help them either, so all in all they'll be pig-sick at the outcome. Next best thing to a win for us going into the Second Test.

Bring it on. 8)
