The Italian stallion

Rival fans wouldn’t have said anything until Tony Evan’s had too many cans of Fosters and made the connection.

Saw that this morning and got unnecessarily angry.

I'm sure Garcia didn't drink sangria, crouchs feet probably didn't stick out the bed, Fowler (father forgive me) isn't actual God, and we don't support armed robbery by singing you'll never walk alone.

Wasn't it some Liverpool-based journalist being faux outraged on behalf of people he's never met, and in another country? It sounds like he's got the clicks they were looking for.

I have to admit I thought the same when I heard the "fuck off Juve" bit. It doesn't help that it's sung so emphatically. In context it's fine really, but I'm not surprised someone's made the connection.

Tony Evans makes a good point tbh. Whenever opposition fans sing "always the victim" they claim it's not about Hillsborough, and in many of their heads it's not. But we all know it is.

So singing about "tears in Turin" and "fuck off Juve" could easily be construed as offensive, regardless of the initial intent.

Perception, more than intention, is reality.

Except the Chiesa song is very clearly, directly and solely talking about his transfer to us.

Whereas the "always the victims" is referential to our tragic history, even if vague enough to avoid directly referencing a specific event. There is no inoffensive, mundane event that it was created for or refers to.

They're hardly the same thing at all.

And have any Juve fans actually claimed offense? Different story if so.

TBH, with things like this connection was always likely and just best to stay away especially we are in age of the context being lost. Plus that line is especially a bit shite.

Apparently we are no longer allowed to sing You'll Never Walk Alone. As it upsets those in wheelchairs.

This is such bs though, really. Nobody's saying the songs have to be literally accurate.

Just that maybe where Juventus of all clubs is concerned a bit of sensitivity might be needed. I don't really know how our fans came up with the lyrics without realising the issue. Heysel might be a long time ago now but so is Hillsborough - if you can know about one you can know about the other.

I think there's every chance that whoever came up with it didn't click, because we bought the player from Juve. If it was from fiorentina it would probably been not too dissimilar. Bella ciao was (for some reason, possibly due to it's anti-fascist message) popular on social media last year and we've dived on it.

Obviously it would be ideal not to reference Juve, or crying in turin, but no one has mentioned it until now. Rivals would fucking adore to pull us apart for something and this could have been seen as low hanging fruit....yet no one did. It took our own journalists (one of which implied klopp had a gay relationship with little evidence) to highlight a link. It seems like it was done not out of some desire for justice, but for outrage clicks to a failing journo who's been pushed well out the sphere.

As I said before, context is important, but rarely used.

If we change the chant I'm ok with it. If we don't I'm ok with it. But they beat not stop singing it, as it's a belter

They came up with the lyrics because we signed him from Juventus, which is in Turin.

I loved the joy on that lads face when he scored.

I like his song.

I'm pleased he's likely to stay and help us.

As for a football chant possibly upsetting someone's sensitivities - really?. Feckin' hell they must be permanently upset.

Can we now get back to real life now you've fulfilled your PC quota.

And 39 of whose fans died when our supporters charged them. Do people not know this?

I noticed it immediately when I first realised what the lyrics actually were. Well actually my first reaction was "that can't be right, we wouldn't be telling Juve to fuck off". Then it was, oh ok we actually are - well, ok then!

I personally wouldn't have said anything because I hate outrage culture and no harm is meant and I don't want to ruin a song people love. Basically it's just a bit unfortunate. But now it's out in the open then yeah my honest opinion is that it's not great and I'm starting to think maybe our younger fans really need to know more about Heysel if the issue never occurred to them.

Maybe I was too young, but I don't instantly associate Forest and Juve with Hillsborough and Heysel. I think about the venue and the deaths, not really about who we were playing. If I think about it a minute, maybe. I can see how Juve may associate it more with us though.

This sounds like a bit of a stretch that is offensive, I'd never have gotten to it independently. But given what the suggestion is, I think they should adjust the words.

I'm coming around to the idea that it's offensive and a bit niave to have those lyrics.

It's easily changed, which would be the mature thing to do. Recognise the mistake, an innocent one and just change it.

Yeah I think we should request lyric changes to other clubs songs/chants if they upset our sensitivities.

It's the mature thing to do.

I just think it's a shame that it had to be mentioned really. No harm was meant and it's a great song. I'm with you when it comes to changing the lyrics - fine either way. Hopefully this blows over and the song can still be sung.
