The Italian stallion

Update:

Fucking hell...

[Doyle] Chiesa not in 22 man CL squad

GK:

Alisson, Mamardashvili, Woodman

DEF:

Gomez, Endo, van Dijk, Konaté, Kerkez, Bradley, Leoni, Robertson, Frimpong

MID:

Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones, Gravenberch

ATT:

Isak, Salah, Gakpo, Ekitiké, Ngumoha

How does this work? Is that it then? I'm sure we played all kinds of reserves in that game at PSG last year... they couldn't have been named squad members could they?

U21s who have trained with the team for 2 years don't have to be registered. So Rio isn't eligible there either. However, players like Bajcetic, Nyoni and Danns are.

UEFA rules stipulate that teams can name a squad of up to 25 players for their competitions. Eight of those 25 need to be ‘locally-trained’ and they are split into two different categories.

Club-trained players must have been registered with the club for at least three seasons between the ages of 15 and 21, while association-trained players must have been registered with a club in the same association (country) for at least three seasons between the ages of 15 and 21.

A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 2004 and has, since his 15th birthday, been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years, or a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year. Players aged 16 may be submitted if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years without interruption.

Ngumoha just turned 17. So he's currently neither home- or association-trained and he can't be in List B either cause he hasn't been with us for two years.

So if we're buying in Jan, we're buying English.
And regarding Chiesa, he just has to prove himself in the limited time he'll get on the pitch until we can submit changes.
He said it himself, he's not 100%. So, I understand why Slot picked Rio over him.

Yes, shocking, but who would you have in ahead of him. It's definitely an interesting call v Rio. Can this be changed, later in the season?

If we’d signed Guehi, it’s likely Leoni would have been the one to miss out.

Same rules don’t apply to EPL, so he’ll play more there and if we sign Guehi in Jan, there’s a chance Chiesa gets included for the 2nd half of season.

But yeah… we need to sign some HG players if we want to add to the Euro squad.

It's unfortunate that he didn't make the CL squad, but Chiesa is needed. We already saw him move ahead of Elliott in the pecking order.

In the end, it's on Chiesa to prove himself. Right now, he's still just living off his name.

A bit harsh IMO. Whatever the state of the squad, we wouldn't be using him at all if we didn't think he was making at least some worthwhile contribution.
