The Italian stallion

He was available something like 8% of the season. Getting a tin of spaghetti hoops would be good business

Not sure how to launch a poll without starting a new thread other than:

Thumps up ‘like’ if you want to keep Chiesa as back up forward this season

Thumbs down ‘like’ if you want to get rid

My view now is keep him. I wanted him to get more of a chance last season, I’d love to see him as a back up LW or false 9 if Nunez or Diaz is leaving.

It entirely depends on whether any one wants to sign him and who else is available at a reasonable price.

That saying, we still have to sell one OS player to sign another one.

he’s a weird one, i think this summer more than ever we need to keep the good lads around the place. on the footballing side i couldn’t give a shite if he stays, he looks like he has lost a bit too much physically and won’t be getting many minutes.

Depends on whether we get a decent enough offer for Darwin and whether we're able to secure our attacking target(s) or not.

I assume his time is up but I wouldn't be horrified if he sticks around another year.

I'd play as a second striker off the bench. He's looked useless in the wider areas, but he can still get some decent shots off with both feet. We will need more of that impact without Jota.

But if Slot has made his mind up then it really is pointless keeping him. It's been one of the most underwhelming first seasons for a long while.

he reminds me of late stage ox, maybe half a trick or some composure before a shot in central areas is the best we can hope for

To me it just looks like Chiesa has lost his confidence. His game is based on pace and he's definitely not as quick as he used to be.
He looked completely out of ideas when he tried to beat defenders. The only thing he's got going for him is his shooting.
Would be a miracle if Chiesa from Euro 2020 (2021) turns up again.

The most blatant and least successful attempt at farming I have ever seen

All he does is score

2mins in and I think I've seen one assist so far. "Elite skills, assists and goal", eh...

Has Chiesa been that bad though when he has played? Everyone was awful against Plymouth, Jota included. He's taken a long time to build up fitness and stay fit, but towards the end of the season he was clearly getting stronger and having more of an impact. There's a player in there and we knew how far off fitness he was when we bought him. We took a risk, worked hard with him, got him fitter than he's been for ages, it seems a bit pointless to now let him go. All that hardwork and time invested in him to flog him off without even giving him a proper chance to prove himself.

Agreed. I only see us getting our money back and he could be useful (if Slot gives him a chance). He also seems to be a wonderful teammate, which really has value, especially now.

He said he would only stay if he gets minutes. He won't, he will be injured sooner or later

I agree that when he's played he's not looked bad at all. But I get the impression Slot doesn't fancy him and probably wouldn't use him much if we keep him, so best to move him on - he'd just be dead-weight in the squad. By contrast, if it was a one bad season kind of thing and he'll get more chances next season after a proper pre-season then I wouldn't be opposed to keeping him. Nothing against the player and he seems to have been very professional about it (no "sources close to the player" grumbling going on).
We seem to have a similar situation with Darwin (who is also not good enough, obvs) in that there's no point keeping him if he's not going to get minutes and it looks like we were avoiding starting him towards the end of last year in case we triggered an add-on fee for him (he has started 49 Premier League games for us and I'm guessing there's an add-on if he hits 50). So again, if he plays, it'll only be as a sub. No point keeping him.
