The new number 9…

If there isn't anyone who fits the usually very specific bill then we might end up with the players not being sold and stick with what we have.

I'm working on the basis that @rurikbird stated last week. South Americans aren't really arsed about European trophies if they can't get a move to Barca or Madrid and they'll take the vast wealth if it's on the table. Fingers crossed it's Darwin and not Mc, Ali or Diaz.

He'd probably be better qualified for the Republic's team than many of the players they've had over the years.
Both in terms of genealogy and footballing ability; the latter of which he would tower over the heads of the dross who have played for ROI in recent years

A name that suddenly cropped up. Lautaro Martinez.

Was once one of the hottest prospects in world football, now Captain of Inter Milan and seems to be a real talisman for them at 28. I think he might be open to leaving Inter Milan with Inzaghi gone and what looks to be a rebuilding period starting for them. Forceful personality, strong, and seems to have developed his playmaker side more this season.

Anyone watched much of him? I think he might be the one we go for if we can't get our top picks. At 28, he can hold the fort for a few years while we try to sweet talk Ekitike or Isak.

I like Martinez, but there'd be a few red flags which would make it a no for me:
1. He's been in Italy long enough to be basically considered Italian. No Italians. Ever.
2. At 28, he'd be looking at any move as potentially his last big contract, so he'd be after top dollar on wages.
3. He's also likely at or past his peak (Mo is an outlier, producing the kind of numbers he does).
4. I think the club will just prefer to get in a younger guy who could potentially give us 8-10 years.
I wouldn't take him as a stop-gap because of the likely wages - we'd struggle to move him on if and when we got the guy we really want.If we were looking at a stop-gap then Delap was that guy, but we passed up on him. I'm hoping that means we're confident of getting the player we really want, whoever it may be.
I'd say similar things about someone like Olly Watkins as well, plus I also don't think he's clinical enough.
I have no idea who THE guy should be, but that's not my job. I'd just have to work out if we could pay for him.

He's on €320k a week with a contract valid till 2029. With that contract, he's either staying put or moving to Saudi Arabia

Doubt he is on Slot's list.
After we get these 3 done, the rest of the transfers will be on sell to buy basis. Nunez should get us £50m and Diaz £70m. Elliott, Cheesy and Doak could get us £100m

So, we get wirtz, kerkez and Frimpong all boxed off; I think it's a max 2 more players, even considering outgoings.

A LW, and a striker. Next summer is the CB market, after things with ibou are confirmed.

Shut up, Momo. You’re only missing AFCON to win your own red flag bingo.

Sounds like he's from the Asterix comics

So here's one. The dog in asterix is called dogmatix, and when I was a little kid I just took the dog thing and didn't worry about the true meaning, although I'm sure my dad explained it to me. But in the original french he's called idefix, a pun on fixed idea, so the translation is dogmatix, which coincidentally has the dog prefix.

Could have just stopped after Point 1, tbh. Case closed.

I wonder if the fact he’s two-footed cancels out his acquired Italianosity?
