The new number 9…

A striker that has exploded this year is Mateo Retegui at Atalanta. 25 goals and 8 assists in 36 games isn't to be sniffed at. Italian but with some Argy blood in him.

Not saying he should be on a list but I am surprised there has been such little chat about him amongst all the clubs given the market and his numbers.

Moby mentioned him earlier. The Italian league bit scares me off.

Retegui is built like a bull and looks like his sole purpose in life is to score goals.

He'll be my option of choice.

25 goals in Serie A is not to be sneezed at. The right age, a team player, no nonsense attitude, doesn't mess around in the box. And has a hell of a header.

I know he's Italian but in fairness to him he doesn't even speak Italian, so surely that's a neutral factor?

Our luck with Italians is an issue though.
We could sign prime Maldini and he'd be shite it feels like it.

It looks like a game of musical chairs:

Players:
1. Sporting/Gyokerez
2. Leipzig/Sesko
3. Frankfurt/Ekitike

“Chairs”
1. Arsenal
2. Chelsea
3. Liverpool

Who will end up where?

I'm going with all 3 to Chelsea (& flop).

Nkunku to Arsenal (they love a Chelsea flop) & flop (what a shock)

Then David to us on a free and bang in 20 goals.

The thing about this for me is, we don't need the second coming of Ian Rush here... The amount of chances we create, I'd have a shot at double figures! We just need somebody who's better than Darwin. Chris Wood would work, FFS.

I'd love to have a sniff at the lad up front for Palace, who had his head kicked off by that keeper... I've always been impressed when I've seen him play. I'm not scared if we don't bring in the very, very best out there... Just gimme somebody who scores 15+ a season where they are, 'cos we'll help them to 25.

This is my view. We just need someone better than what we've got. Ideally we can mould that player to exactly what our team needs if they're young/willing enough.

The striker market is fucking awful at the minute and I don't know how much better it will be a year down the line

Literally anything is an improvement on nunez, sadly. Jota has to be worth a punt as a squaddy. Plus we'll get some $ for Nonez

Hence why I'd be ok with Watkins or Toney. They just need to be more available than Jota and less brainless than Darwin.

Or we just sit this one out altogether and make do.

I have little interest in these emerging strikers and these prices. They all feel like traps to me. (But reserve the right to get really excited if we go ahead and buy one!)

Watkins will be 60m and isn't consistent. Toney is on a shit ton so doubt he'll come back any time soon.

The market is dead.

I do not want to go in to the season with Nunez and Jota at the helm.

That’s an impressive compilation…he’s dynamic, reminds me of Tevez…what would it take to get him do you think?

Well he only joined for 20m euro last year, so Atalanta may welcome a quick profit and reinvest. They're a pretty savvy club like Brighton. Transfer market puts him at £50m.

Atalanta did take United to the cleaners over Hojlund, though. Whilst we're not a basket case, let's just say they're well aware the money the PL clubs have!

Villa will need to sell before fiscal year end or they're in the soup again. 40m paid up front might tempt them. Agree that 60m is too much.

Toney has managed to sneak his way into an England call up. World Cup year and he might be inclined to cash in his chips and come back
