The Race for 4th

Every footy fan has a bit of hope though surely ? I mean we've been through a bit as Liverpool fans over the last few years but we've had the odd bit of cup success to give us little lift now and again. You wonder how fans of lesser teams get on sometimes - you have to give them some credit for sticking with a team you pretty much never win anything in a lifetime

Every football fan has hope, but varying levels. Right now..... Yeah, if things go our way... We could get 4th . That's my hope. Do I believe it? No. But we could... And it wouldn't be that unexpected.

Others are just full on "we're nevah getting fourth, lulz"

I'll believe until it's too difficult

Optimistic but somewhat realistic might be 9 wins, 3 defeats, and 3 draws. That's 30 points to leave us on 64 points, and that probably won't be enough.

I'm all for a bit of optimism, but within reason!
One point less than me then as i said 65. But there's ZERO chance of us making top 4. Top 6, but not top 4. I can see the final standing being:

1. Manure
2. Shitty
3. chelski
4. Spurs
5. Gooners
6. Liverpool

had us losing to arsenal and chelsea. drawing with city, swansea, spurs and everton. Winning against wba, wigan, southampton, villa, west ham, reading, newcastle, fulham and qpr. I thought i was being generous with that top be honest. So don't know how he got 73 points.

*sighs* Does everybody around here take absolutely everything literally ? MY PENIS IS MADE OF GOLD !

See original post and just above.

Well at the start of the season I expected us to finish 12th so I'd take top 6 at the moment

I dunno what the bookies are thinking but in terms of chance of getting 4th I'd give Arse and Spurs 35% each, Everton 20% and us 10%

Totally unscientific... Gut feeling based on Everton winning tonight and us not getting much from Arse or Citeh.

We have no realistic chance of making 4th. Great win on sat but last week we got bummed for 45 minutes by a midfield of Carrick and Cleverly. We will spank teams but will also drop points against teams we should beat. 5th should be achievable.

24 carat mate, I know 20/22 would be harder but what can you do ? Just got to get by with what you're given.
Nice.

haven't done them yet, only did us. Everton scare me a lot with their resilience. they are proving to be a very hard team to beat.
It's all a bit of fun but interesting nonetheless. IMHO there is still hope since none of those teams have shown consistency and all of them have tougher run-ins.

The amount of hope residing in me has diminished significantly over the past 2-3 years.

I don't really expect anything at the moment.

I'm resigned to this return to glory (if it happens) taking a while.

Do I *believe* we'll get into the top 4 this season ? Nope.

Contrast this with my steadfast and resolute standpoint re: our victory in Istanbul.

Even at 3-0 down, I was bullish about us winning to the point I nearly had a couple of fights with others who didn't feel the same, at the bar I watched the game in.

I'm pretty worn out with all the bullshit to be honest.

*thinks about tittays*

We'll finish in 6th, 5 points off 4th. Reading, Wigan and QPR to be relegated. I tried to predict as realistically as possible, although I only went for win, lose or draw (ie putting in 1-0, 1-1 or 0-1), as I've better things to be doing. So goal difference doesn't reflect properly.

Ya lazy feker. Do it again and this time properly

I think we'll end on about 65/67 points, and hopefully that will be good enough for 6th/5th, but that won't be enough for 4th based on recent years.

If we do end up with that sort of tally, then given the last couple of years (58 and 52 points) and that we are still in transition, it would be a good haul, and a good base to build upon for next year.

Do you realise how long that would take me? There's no need to do it properly. At the end of the day, it's either 3, 1 or zero points.

EDIT: @Red Water

The City and Arsenal matches will tell us where we are as a side. If - IF - we can pick up four points from those fixtures then I think there's a real chance we could well be close to fourth at the end of the season.

I wouldn't rule anything out at this stage.

We lost to Arsenal at home and city are lethal at their place.

Do people forget the football lesson we got their last year?

1 point would be impressive at the moment.

You're right Pat. We should forfeit the games now and conserve our energy

Do it properly or don't do it at all. Seriously. I also don't like the colour scheme, it's mostly shit.

We have to beat Arse away, Spurs and Everton at Home. 9 Points from that will give us a great chance - Assuming we don't bollocks up games such as QPR and West Brom at home etc.
