The search for a new DM

It's quite clear that Klopp is not a fan of purely Defensive Mids in general.

He can't resist having a bit of attacking verve in all his midfielders. Its the Treaty of Versatility that the entire management team have entered into. Otherwise, you're not worth more than £25 million in his eyer.

Gravenberch, Douglas Luiz, Thuram, Kone... He'd probably sign Connor Gallager as our 6 if he could.

I actually agree with Klopp if that is true - I fucking hate defensive mids, and I understand fully why he won't want to play over 25M for such a player. On that basis he really needs to take a chance on some cheap French import then - because the best ones seem to come from that nation right now or some unknown South American. But he needs one with pace, it kinda broke me the way that thug at Newcastle was getting the better of Endo and the rest of our midfield in those first 30 mins.

Fabs at his best was more than a DM. So yeah the classic type that just breaks up play and plays the ball sideways is not really what we're looking for.

Think we will end up with Ndidi then - would be free for us, so just wages then. But no doubt we lose him during AFCON.

Liverpool interested in signing £15m ‘defensive genius’ despite claims he’s going nowhere this summer

Bayer Leverkusen’s Exequiel Palacios has caught the attention of Liverpool this summer but the club are told he’s not for sale.
That’s via a report in The Athletic which also outlines that Manchester United hold interest in the Argentina international.
Simon Rofles, Bayer Leverkusen’s managing director, has made it clear to any interested clubs that the ‘defensive genius’ is unavailable.
However, the information also shares that Ten Hag could have exploratory talks for a potential move in 2024.
Liverpool’s midfield revamp does however look to be completed for this summer.
Interest in Palacios may have been in tandem with the side’s move for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
And with Wataru Endo now signed and hitting the ground running at Anfield, that issue looks to be solved for now.

Moreover, Liverpool would likely be aware that Bayer Leverkusen would seek a sizable profit on the £15m they paid for Palacios.
Palacios arrived at the German club in 2020 from River Plate.
And whilst the 24-year-old took some time to adapt, he’s now a key cog in Xabi Alonso’s plans.

Perhaps Liverpool’s interest may be one to watch in the coming transfer windows.
Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s midfield does now look satisfactory for the start of this season, you would still expect it needs work in the long-term.
All of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo are clear examples of how well Liverpool’s talent identification has fared this summer.
And although they seemingly did miss out on key targets they will surely be satisfied with the work done.
Klopp’s side now have seven points from a possible nine in the Premier League and will hope for a much better year.
Of course it may actually be centre-back which is the hottest topic in the remainder of Liverpool’s window.
26-year-old Joe Gomez is now being linked with a late move to Saudi Arabian side At Ittihad.

Holy crap I thought we were going to sign this guy

I mean, yeah. Seems to tick a lot of boxes. Price not unreasonable.
The price is reasonable, the agent and dad fees are not, appaz. We have room for only 1 OS player so knowing Ghallagher is available for loan we should go for him which means we can get a OS defender. If Salah goes we can be without a RW till Jan. My choice is Gonclaves, who will produce the assists for Jota and Nunez if they play the 9 role

This guy is supposed to be fantastic - but I think we would have to offer something like 70M for him to prize him away from his current club.
