Trent, Salah and VVD

New 2 year deal incoming:

Van Dijk: “At both teams, I am still Virgil, the big leader, and I certainly want to remain that for the next two years.”
That's the thing - he summed it up, if we are to get a replacement for Virgil - we need him to be physically like him - not just a good defender but someone with a commanding presence. It's that later quality that will be hard to find and also finding a player that does not have a bad injury record. Let's face it other than that injury from the Pickford assault - he has always been available and the source of stability along with Alisson for our defensively line. I can imagine a team without Salah and Trent - but I cannot deal with imagining a team without Virgil.

what’s he responding to here? what have sources been saying?
I guess it's about Fab Romano.

“We can confirm what I keep saying since the game [vs Manchester United], because it was panic for Liverpool fans after that fantastic performance at Old Trafford,” Romano said on the Here We Go podcast.

“But then after the game, Mo Salah with those words sent the fans into a kind of panic for his future. What I can say is that conversations are set to take place soon between Mo Salah, his agent (Ramy Abbas) and Liverpool.

“There will be conversations, there will be talks. Let them work. In the sense that Liverpool have to discuss with Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the same will happen with Virgil van Dijk. Talks will follow to understand the futures of these players, including Mo Salah.

“As of today, it’s not over at all between Salah and Liverpool. Talks will follow and we will see how these discussions will go on project, contract, length of the contract and also, obviously, money.”

romano also said salah was very keen to stay didn’t he? agent is probably annoyed with people undermining their negotiating position

Hi All,

What is happening with the contract situation ? - is there any secret news that some of you know, 5 games into the season -who do you think should be extended and given what they want ?

Also think its a bit weird that this thread is not at the top of the discussions - we know if these 3 left we will never replace them in the summer - its not what FSG do,

Basically LFC have decided to troll you this season and have decided to string it out as long as possible and say as little as possible.

The feeling is, that this approach will result in a much needed cull of the world’s frog population.

Here's what Firmino had to say about it:

I don’t know if he was aware of it or not, but Salah used to frustrate everyone when he didn’t pass the ball. I knew how to handle that situation better than most. Klopp addressed this issue in front of all of us: when a teammate was in a better position, the ball had to be passed. It was a clear hint aimed at Salah. Over the years, I must say, this aspect of his game improved significantly. He gradually learned to be less selfish and more cooperative – notwithstanding the fact that he is a striker, a goalscorer, and every goalscorer tends to be a bit ‘greedy’ in the pursuit of a goal. That’s normal.

@binomial 's post is spot on. Whilst true, he's also the most selfish player I've ever seen play for LFC. I haven't seen a player habitually ignore his team mates at the rate Salah does it. Its gotten to the point where it's become predictable.
The win yesterday would have been so much sweeter if he shared the ball and it lead to us getting more goals. Diaz was on a hatrick, Chiesa could have got his first goal at Anfield, Nunez another goal to build his confidence, but no, Salah's quest for a goal was more important, I guess.
Honestly, I think Slot is enabling him as well by keeping him on the pitch.

Slot seems just as keen to indulge Salah as Klopp. Salah needs to realise he has to accept being substituted for the good of the team.

Until he signs a new contract that isn't going to change.
I don't get it, so the idea is to keep playing him until he signs a new contract whilst at the same time not offering him a new contract?
Cause he said it himself, there hasn't been any contract talks.

He said with him. A nice way to circumvent his agent. And we have no idea what has or has not been said behind the scenes since then. Maybe no talk yet but a date given for them. One thing is certain - anything a fan says is just supposition.

Since when has that happened?

That we talk to his agent and he doesn’t know anything about it? Or, as you seem to imply, that we talk directly to a player about a contract?

You're missing the innuendo. Mo said no-one had spoken to him (personally). Which could have been true. But it's being suggested that throughout Klopp's last year and Slot's summer, that no-one spoke to his agency? Don't believe that for one second.

I understand as a Top Top Red and a superb mouthpiece for FSG you have to bury important stuff under trivial matters, but this issue is not gonna go away. We need VVD to sign an extension ast least.

@Modo , agree on all points regarding Salah. I want to say though, because of Mane and Salah, I am kinda confused by the primary objectives of what we should expect from a left and right winger. For most of my life watching football, I always though the role was about going inside and breaking the lines or on the
outside putting in good crosses, and goal scoring was an occassional thing...so over the course of a season your right/left sided attacking players should get you between 7 and 15 goals max.

I still think thats the primary objective, but Mo winning that golden boot a few times has made him obsessive over scoring goals, so what are we to judge him on now for a contract extension ? I cannot see him doing the stuff I said in the above paragraph as he gets older. Or scoring like previous seasons.

Trents comments sound ominous . .

Massive loss this will be, I guess he has the chance to go to Madrid and win 5 league titles and 3 CLs so. . .
