Trophy Day - Car Rams Fans

I feel really sick about this today. I didn't make the parade as flights were mad expensive; I know should have booked before they announced it & probably would have got over for €15, but now I'm glad I didn't. My daughter went to represent the family, even though she really isnt into football and her fella is a blue. Her & her mates did Allerton Rd first and were right next to the bus - she sent me a video more or less up Virgil's nostrils - they then went down to the Strand, so would have been round the corner from the incident. She wasn't involved and only found out about it on her way home, but she said a wonderful day had been ruined, and she is right.

I wonder what this means for future parades, but I guess that's a conversation for another day.

I know I should just ignore it, but today I keep getting pulled into the garbage on Twitter - the lowlifes are posting their usual shite.

The first responses to early tweets were an assumption the driver was a muslim & likely illegal immigrant. Fortunately that was soon put to bed, but now there are theories circulating, backed up with grainy pictures, that the man arrested is not the driver - presumably the theory is that the police saw the driver was an asian, told him to do a runner & then picked a random middle aged white guy from the crowd. FFS!

The other story doing the rounds is that the driver didn't do anything until he was "attacked by scousers" and that sent him over the edge.

There are some real lowlifes in this world and most of them reside in Musk's toxic universe.

Im guessing if he drove deliberately at people then you could try him for attempted murder. More likely it'll be causing serious injury by dangerous driving, which is max 5yrs of which he serves probably two.

Which partly explains why shit like this happens. A miracle nobody killed.

You know there's a left wing alternative called Bluesky?

This isn't the antidote, it's the poison. We don't need little self-selected bubbles, or to be funneled into them by radicalizing engagement algorithms.

Look at us all on here. People have widely different politics. We are a perfect model of public discourse.

Lol I honestly can't tell how much of that is sarcasm.

I've been trying to avoid social media the past while. Facebook is shite, it's a complete mess from a user's experience. Twatter is toxic as fuck. I've a bluesky account but I don't use it.

The world is burning because tech bros want to make more money. What will the shareholders say when AI tells the bots to stop clicking and the sharevalue goes down?

See predictably, Joey first to offer his "alt" to join and then delete his tweet. Not sure why he deleted it, hasn't stopped him before.

None of it really, though obviously us being the perfect model was with a wink. Old internet was better internet.

Right, well I agree with what you say but not sure if anything can be done. Even on old Twitter people were largely in their little silos. People are tribal by nature, obviously. I'm not sure just totally separating and going on different sites is necessarily a bad thing. Maybe people will find the unanimity boring and on average will just be less engaged. I think that was the single biggest issue with the culture wars - just the sheer level of political engagement. People were REALLY into it! Almost every issue became left or right coded, almost at random - covid being the absolute prime example.

I don't think you're ever gonna get the average person to be objective about current affairs. But just increasing the level of apathy would be really good imo.

I don't think it's apathy that's the solution, it's just some basic societal rules. Like, I go to the YMCA all the time to swim, and I go midday and it's just a bunch of old men chatting and going to the sauna in the locker room.

If one of them says something political the others are well armed with well-practiced non responses:

"there you go"
"You said it"
"I hear that"

These are ways of saying I may or may not agree with you but I'd rather talk about anything else because I'm here to exercise and we aren't going to change each other's opinion.

My neighbor is a big trump guy, but a huge part of it for him is he just likes arguing and being a contrarían in a very democratic part of a very democratic state. He's in his 70s. His politics are fucking horrible. But he's a good neighbor, lends me tools all the time, has good advice with the house. He's stopped trying to provoke me into argument because I can't be arsed arguing with him. I'm not apathetic, I just don't want to talk about politics with people who treat it like sport. The reality is I think we are being fucked, they think we are being fucked, and we ARE being fucked. We disagree on who is fucking us. And I'm right of course, but what do I win for that?

We've got to live next to each other is an underrated premise for society. We need civility.

Not going to turn this political, but many have more passionate feelings about all things US politics right now, and it's simply easier to avoid those who refuse to see logic and reason... I don't want to talk with anybody who's mind is closed off to all but their warped attitudes. At my age, life's too short to engage with gobshites (other than here), so it's easier to simply ignore them. Engaging would only ruin my day.

Christ, I can barely tolerate most neverton fans I encounter online, FFS. 😉

I was on one of the generic news station's websites yesterday - BBC, I think - when the news first broke... I mean, it was less than an hour since we heard about it happening, and nobody knew anything yet. One of the very first replies was some bellend who actually typed "Why have the Merseyside police been hiding this man's identity for 18 hours now..? It's because they're afraid to say what we all know, but I'm not - He's Islamic."

WTF is wrong with so many people out there?

I totally agree. Maybe apathy was a bad way of putting it. I'm going to be an unabashed snob and just flatly state that clever and sensitive people like most of us on here can handle being interested in politics in a sensible way. Most people can't - I think for them politics is mostly poison and therefore more apathy would lead to better outcomes. I think on average politics IS just tribal warfare so anything that gets people focusing less on that and more on just the people around them must be good.

It's Tommy Robinson's release day, the far right rejoice and have all come out to play.

Well let's be honest I think most of us who didn't want it to be a Muslim thought it was quite likely to be one.

Ya the line that locals were attacking cars and this guy was just defending himself is disgusting. Clickbait rage.

It'll be the former, which can carry life imprisonment. He wasn't considering lenient sentencing when carrying out this act. He wasn't thinking at all.

Rest assured, he'll be getting 25-30 years before he's even considered for release.

Police just said he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and "driving while unfit through drugs".

Tailgated the ambulance through the bollard

Failed the drugs test

I don't think he'll be out for a number of years.
