Post Match UCL Qarabag (H) 6-0 Weds January 28th 20:00

Can't be GALA as we got them already... I tink?
It can be any of them.

The mad chance in the rules is

1-2 2nd leg at home until semis
3-4 2nd leg at home until quarters
4-8 2nd leg at home in last 16

But if say Benfica get into the last 16 and beat Arsenal or Bayern. Then they get 2nd leg at home until semis.. if Benfica lost the quarters then the team that beat them inherited it.

Surely it should go to the next placed team in the league phase?

Great result.
Great performance.
Great goals.
5 scorers.

Hugo is becoming the main man.
Hopefully Alexi finds form after this.
VVD insane!
Great to have Salah back among the goals.

Slot in!

We looked weirdly balanced with Endo at RB, but the opposition were muck.

I know this isn't a pre match thread but I'd keep him there til Frim or Bradders are back and have him tuck in almost like a back 3, and send Kerkez or Robbo firing up the left.

Ekitike looks more and more the complete #9. I never doubt him in 1 on 1s like that goal. Reminds me of how I used to feel watching Torres. His hold up play is very good too, and loving his combinations with Wirtz. Imagine just slotting Isak in for Gakpo as left forward and we actually have a pretty damn good front 4 - mildly lacking clarity on how they should all rotate on taking up space.

I enjoyed Endo being on the pitch looking like a cow let out onto the field after winter

I am an Endo critic, I don't think he's up to playing for us. However I was really surprised, and pleased for him, to see how well he did yesterday (opposition quality considered). That said he was exposed a few times by pace when defending in and around the box. I'm not sure he could handle Gordon, Barnes or Elanga and I'm not too keen to find out ! That said we have few options.

Agreed that he could get done for pace, but I think with the right instructions he would sit deeper than he did against Qarabag and leave less gaps for their wingers to run in to. It also puts a bit less pressure on Mo to help him out and we saw Mo being used to stretch play more than usual last night I felt. The classic VVD cross field ball was played a few times.

Unfortunately we might not get many chances to do that in the PL these days.

I'm not normally inclined to get into players body language or whatever but occurred to me I can't remember really seeing Wirtz happy at all. After he scored yesterday, he just kinda looked annoyed. Just me?

That gaping hole we had in midfield yesterday and poor Macca managing the entire defensive side of the midfield on his own at times would be punished by a better team.

Yes it would. Maybe I’m being harsh, tearing it up would be more than 7 contributions in 10 games.

It’s very good like just not tearing it up imo.

There is more to it than just goal contributions. He creates more chances than anyone else in that period aswell.
But it doesnt matter. I think he's tearing it up and you can think whatever you want.

Of course there is but you also framed it as a statement of fact vs what you think he’s doing. Anyway all good. It’s great he’s finding his feet and finally contributing goals and assists.

Shame it’s taken 6 months and after our league campaign has been torpedoed but that was always a risk.

How did that happen?!

He's had Alzheimer's the past couple of years and he started singing along with it when it came on the TV, so one of his daughters who was arranging things decided it was his favourite song, when for 82 of his 83 years it made his skin crawl.
