Voulez-vous Kerkez avec moi ce soir ?

If we get this done it completes a quite remarkable trio of signings that improve us immediately.

I really hope this is true. But it does slightly belittle some of the most important players in our modern history, Robbo and Rat. These are some massive shoes to fill and the new lads will have everything to prove.

I hope we don't lose too many players and have to sign replacements that will come with some level of uncertainty

100%. Souness was always criticised for how much change he made in a short period of time, and Arne.is currently doing a lot of surgery on a title winning side.

Sell Robbo and Kelleher obvs, and Nunez if we can sign a proper forward. I wouldn't want to have to replace Diaz or Harvey unless we really have to.

As I mentioned before, I'd rather we kept Robbo until we were sure Kerkez is capable. And I'll e sad to lose Elliott but he currently isn't good enough and deserves to play more. I think Diaz is underrated on here and we need to be sure we have a adequate replacement lined up.

I like Elliot - but I don’t see how he fits in at all or gets a regular game with Wirtz signing.

If it’s Trent, Robbo, Elliot & Nunez being replaced by Frimpong, Kerkez, Wirtz & someone - you’d be hard pressed to anything other than happy.

Why are we suddenly so concerned with people's family members? Trent's brother is clearly just a snake, but generally it goes with the territory of top class sports people. There's always someone pushing them and often it borders on obsession and toxicity, and the usual living their dreams through their kids/sibling. I'm sure many of them end up in therapy, but it's not a unique thing. FWIW I didn't think much of Elliott's Dad in the Klopp documentary, for much the same reasons. The kid just wants to please his Dad and to make him proud, despite being pushed and pushed and not always getting the pat on the back he needs. There hasn't been any problems with Elliott here, or Kerkez at Bournemouth and Slot won't take any shit anyway.

An exception might be Hendo's family. There seemed very genuine joy for his achievements on the field rather than money. Maybe I am a sucker though.

I spoke to Hendo's Dad once, seemed like a really decent bloke, very down to earth. People always spoke highly of Trent's mum too - bit of a character but basically sound. Thiago Ilori's Dad on the other hand... Turned up at Chapel Street one deadline day, about 4 o'clock, pissed, totally obnoxious, demanding his son be allowed to leave the club. I heard he was a total arse the day we signed the kid too. No wonder he didn't even play for the reserves.

Yeah - the Harvey & dad relationship looked unhealthy to me too. Maybe that's what it takes to be a successful sports person - that may explain why my lad plays AFL for Belfast Redbacks and is not on LFC books; I'm just too nice
Maybe he was just played out of position? Like that time Newcastle missed Shearer because he was stuck in nets the day the scout was there.

I think there is a difference between being concerned vs commenting on their posting on IG / whatever.

Kerkez is desperate for a move to us, young and knows the deal is imminent. I've got no issues with him posting IG stories etc. I like his commitment and willingness to joins us. Seems a great kid.

I don't agree that this belittles Robbo & Trent. Neither have been performing at their peak levels of 2019 - 2021. It should be perfectly normal to believe two things 1) Robbo & Trent were brilliant and arguably each the best in their position for a good period. 2) Neither is any more - and we need to make our team the best it can be for 2025 onwards.

If Kerkez isn't capable, the resolution won't be a 2025 Robertson - it would be a different LB.

Hopefully Kerkez gets some time to grow too, he is younger than Elliot & Quansah and even Tyler Morton. Same age as young Bradders. He's had a breakthrough season at Bournemouth and i'm excited at the prospect of him coming in and improving our squad.

Which is why I'd like Robbo to stay.
I suppose at this point it's whoever is cheaper out of Robbo/Kostas

We've always dealt with bellend families. He's fucking mustard.

Arsed
It's the same in anything though isn't it? Every school deals with the same issues, I work with SEN kids and young adults and generally most families are sound, bar the odd few.

My lads have both played football at a decent level and I've seen it with parents; the indifferent ones, the ones who really don't want to be there and the ones who are dragging their kids off for a slap on the other side of the pitch (really) for playing badly, then there's the ones who want their kids to have the entire limelight regardless of performance. Parenting is frighteningly diverse. I've seen it throughout life, throughout my work life, throughout social groups that we've been involved with over the years. You've probably seen it more than most. It's scary how fucked up kids get and how easy it is to see through exactly why they end up a mess.

It must be quite the thing, the massive fallout after a player retires and hits the realisation that whatever amazing things they achieved, it would never feel like enough for some families to be proud of.

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.

Should've said that's Philip Larkin who I'm not, 'cause he's dead.
